Very helpful guys. They are sending on replacements. And.......from the 'Horses Mouth' a Mk1 Spitfire kit is in their plans but no time scale yet. It should be the definitive kit we all hope for 😊

Regards,

Lindsey

OS+A whereas a photo I have seen of it clearly shows it should be QS+A.

Your photo is perhaps not clear enough - there is a photo artefact on the fuselage near the letter O.

Check the photo here where you can see the tonal variation in the spot.

https://www.3squadron.org.au/subpages/Hurricane/Hurricane_p4.htm

This article by Steve Mackenzie is the definitive reference for 3 Sqn Hurricanes.

The correct code seen on multiple pictures is OS. This code was assigned to 3 Sqn until they changed to CV as did many Med Theatre fighter squadrons at that time. This is also noted by Flintham and Thomas in Combat Codes. The more-or-less parallel use of codes in different theatres is not common but certainly did occur. A browse through Combat Codes will give more examples.

Just to confound things a couple of Lysanders also carry OS codes and these are indeed from 3 RAAF. Here's an excerpt from ADF-Serials Telegraph - http://adf-serials.com.au/newsletter/ADF Telegraph 2014 Summer Ver2.pdf

By month’s end, a decision and subsequent action to replace these aircraft by Hawker Hurricane Mk1s had been made. It also marked the introduction of the Afrika Corp into the Western Desert. Unit strength would be sixteen Hurricane aircraft in use with a further four as immediate reserve. A high number of these aircraft were ex No 33 and No 73 Squadron RAF aircraft thrown up. A further two Westland Lysander aircraft (MkII P9185 and MK1 R2642) would be also be attached and used in communications duties. Squadron Code allotted for each aircraft would be OS-*. On the 1st February 1941, following establishing its base at Berka, Benina, near Benghazi, ferrying of Hurricane aircraft for both flights were being made from Amiriya, in Egypt, which was located approximately 16 km south-southwest of Alexandria; some 180 km northwest of Cairo.

There is a good picture of P3967 (OS-B) in this article. Note the very square letters.

New Hurricane box from Arma Hobby will be available next week:

What markings will you choose for your models?

So it looks like to do this one I need to cut the trapezoidal shape underneath the "O" off the decal and not use the crescent shape and two dots under the cockpit canopy as, looking at the site quoted by @Ed Russell these are just splotches on the picture.  Apart from that everything else looks okay.
