2019 Groupbuild programme - now with dates!

Recommended Posts

Hi All

At the risk of stirring up a hornets nest I suggest that if a poll is needed the GB's that don't make it have to be re-proposed for the next years poll instead of rolled over . This would give an indication of continuing support for said GB's or mergers of like GB's. This would mean each GB would start at ground zero again but I feel that if the support is still there it wouldn't be long before the threshold was reached again . This would then keep proposals fresh .

I have done 6 models for 5 group builds this year and will do one more for the Gruman GB. I really wanted to join the Airfix, 60s NATO and Brits abroad as well but there were more GBs than modelling time available.

I supported Enzos decision to add the RAF 100 and WW1 by joining both, but really we had too many. Perhaps 2 should have been dropped to let the 2 anniversary ones in? Often I believe that the subscribers to a GB might be compromised if there's a clash of times as I was this year.

There are some good idea's and arguments above about what and how to but I believe that there should always be a vote so the total number is managed and to act as a final filter to ensure enough members join in with each.

Finally someone has to make a decision and I think Enzo has made some great decisions in the past so I will continue to support his decisions in the future.

Thus far this years I've started builds for 3 GBs and not been able to complete them, this is very usual for me and in 2 cases the subject matter was something I was very keen to do, however real life (aka moving house) got in the way and by the time it came to being able to return to the modelling table, the enthusiasm had faded and other builds took priority. However, I am still keen to participate in the upcoming GBs

I appreciate that for many folks there are more GBs than modelling time available, but I'm struggling to see why this is an argument to reduce the number of GBs.  It's not compulsory to participate in every GB (or is it?).

If one's only got time to participate in 8 GBs per year (for example), surely it's better to be able to pick from a choice of 16 rather than be presented with a deliberately restricted choice of 8.

I understand that spreading the participant pool over a wider number of GBs may lead to head counts falling in some GBs, but in practice that doesn't seem to have caused any problems this year.

Also, maximising the number of GBs broadens the range of subjects available and so should potentially open up the GB scene to a wider audience, thereby increasing the total size of the participant pool.

For sure, there will be an upper limit on the number of GBs that Enzo can sensibly manage (and we may already have reached that limit), but let's not artificially restrict the number just to make it easier for individuals to achieve a 100% participation record.

All the above is just my personal view and is offered purely because these things are being discussed.  The reality is, I really enjoy whatever time I can spend in GBs and will continue to do so regardless of how they are set up :goodjob:

Cheers

Cliff

Well to put my thoughts in a tight package:

1) the GB system as it is now, works and is not broken by any means, so we should keep our fingers off it because we may end up making it worse

2) discussing and chatting all sorts of things re the said system is a remarkably enjoyful and environment friendly way of using some of our spare time, that we, should we be wiser than we are, could use assembling all sorts of kits instead. But by golly doesn't this irrelevant discussion actually get us better to know and understand the other humans behind the usernames, and thus be worth it all 😊? Best regards, V-P

  • 2 weeks later...

In the event that we only have ten qualifying GBs, then we will run with that without a poll.  I'll make a decision on Sunday 28 October.

Well, the decision has been made.  In the event we had ten qualifying GBs, so there will not be a poll this year.

The qualifying GBs are:

80s Front line Asia
The Year That I Was Born
Lockheed GB
Film, Fictional and Speculative GB
75th Anniversary of D Day
50s NATO v Warsaw Pact
Flying Boats and Floatplanes GB
The Specialists
Trainers GB
Shark Mouths

This means that we get to do the bunfight for dates earlier this year.  This is a good thing as the first slot is never popular.  Now you get an extra month to prepare. :)

There are ten slots, commencing 28 days apart.  This means that there will be an absolute maximum of 8 GBs and STGBs running concurrently. That will only happen on four weeks during the year - in two cases that is simply because there are two Blitzbuild GBs which only run for three days.  It also means that only one full GB will run over into 2020, and that will only be for 19 days.

As has been discussed earlier in this thread, this will clear the slate.  None of the currentnly proposed GBs will get a bye into next years poll.  All will need to be re-proposed.  In the meantime, all qualifying GBs will be moved into the Future GBs section.

So...   enough of the waffle.  I know you all want to know the dates.  Now we come to bunfight.   The dates will be allocated in a first come, first served basis.  Can the GB hosts please PM me with their preferred dates.   However, a word of warning.   Some of you are already hosting STGBs, so try not to overload yourselves with hosting duties.

Let the chaos commence!  :D

Hello @Enzo Matrix ... Im good with anything but prefer the 2nd half of the year. So builds # 8, 9, or 10. The patton build ends at the end of June. However as I'm only 1/3rd of the hosts. @Sabre_days & @whitestar12chris should also give there :2c: worth on the dates.

Dennis

this would give good balance for me, between the Patton & Corsair builds.

PM sent Enzo.

I’ve gone for either slot 2 or 8 for the ‘In the year I was born GB’. Just trying to avoid Jun-Sep as much as possible to help co-host the Frog Classic GB, which I gather might take up a fair bit of time and energy.

Cheers and thanks.. Dave

If it's OK with you Dave, I'd like to snaffle slot #2, as early works best for myself and my co-hosts (not cohorts, stupid phone). I've sent the Lord and Master a PM but thought I'd make it public too.   @Rabbit Leader

Rob,

Should thy good GB lord grant me Slot 8, then Slot 2 should be all yours. I’m really happy with anything outside Jun-Sep, so hopefully it’ll all work out for everyone.

Cheers.. Dave

Hi all,

the schedule I've come up with is below.   There were two slots left after a quick flurry of claims, so I've made a unilateral decision for the final two GBs.  I have given the D Day GB an extra two days. It will start on Thursday 6 June...

I hope you all like the schedule.

GB                                                Start                                   End
50s NATO vs Warsaw Pact            Sat, 19 Jan                         Sun, 12 May 19
Trainers                                        Sat, 16 Feb 19                   Sun, 9 Jun 19
The Specialists                              Sat, 16 Mar 19                   Sun, 7 Jul 19
Lockheed                                      Sat, 13 Apr 19                    Sun, 4 Aug 19
Sharkmouth                                 Sat, 11 May 19                   Sun, 1 Sep 19
D Day                                          Thu, 6 Jun 19                       Sun, 29 Sep 19
80s Front line Asia                       Sat, 6 Jul 19                        Sun, 27 Oct 19

I second that, very well done for your efforts in herding us cats into some sort of order.

The trick is convincing the cats that it was all their idea in the first place.  :D

Great job Enzo and it was also nice to see how we were all able to slightly adjust our preferences in order to accommodate others. Now I'm finding that I'm going to have the same problem as most others by wanting to participate in many (all) of these GB's ?? Threfore, my Christmas wish this year will be that each month gets extended by an additional five days and that somehow I grow and extra arm and hand to handle the many kits I'll have on the go!! What are my chances?

Now in a quirky way, my 13 year old daughter (Eva) decided last night that she would like to be a BM member and start building some kits as well. This took me a little by surprise, however she's very much daddy's girl and we share many similar traits. So look out for a few posts from 'little rabbit leader' whenever she gets her profile up and running.

Cheers and roll on 2019... Dave

I find that I have big plans for stupid numbers of builds in each Gb, with the inevitable results.  I'm going to try and have enough self control so that I only do one build per GB.

Sounds reasonable, right?   But you have to realise that Peter Gabriel wrote a song about me.

and no...   it wasn't "Shock The Monkey"...
