Anteater
I hope they've got the decals right on the Rothmans car because it looks for all the world like they've renamed the navigator "Ian Dundrod" on the photograph of the box!
Noel Smith
Has the Belkits 6R4 actually been built by any reader of this thread? Comments welcome. MRM. I often wonder what happened to them. Just before they disappeared I seem to remember a Vanwall l in 1/20 scale being released by them, but correct me if I am wrong and it was someone else. It's pre-order status at Spotmodel. They're on a boat I believe on the way to the model shops. Doubt anyone has one yet...

Yes, just noticed that too. £5 more for the kit but the postage at Hiroboy is about £10 cheaper, so works out better than Spotmodel for me. I think £50 seems reasonable but fairly high to me for a 1/24 scale kit? I was expecting somewhere around £35 - £40, but it does have engine detail, so I suppose the extra cost is probably for that. It also looks like it has photo-etch parts and night stage lamps, so not a bad price for the extras that you get. Only problem is I like three colour schemes, Rothmans, Computer Vision and Belga, so I'd be running at £150 for three kits!! Starting to get expensive 🙁

At least it's a new one and not a re-released Hasegawa! 12 minutes ago, Steve Noble said: Starting to get expensive Indeed, and tbh I think I'm going to have to give the Metro a miss, as I really ''need'' the Beemax (or whatever they're called today Peugeot 306 Maxi that's also 'due soon', the Decalcas Capri RS2600 (as long as it's a new tool and not a reboxed Academy), Belkits Ascona 400, Nunu Porsche 911SC.....etc etc....!! Think I may have to remortgage the house!

I can't not have the Metro 6R4!! If it's one only it'll have to be the Rothmans version of Jimmy McRae. I'm looking forward to the Ford RS200 as well, a real must have for me and there's a new Audi Sport Quattro on the way, also from Platz/Nunu which is a must as well. Very expensive times, but a good time. I've almost got every rally car in 1/24 that I've ever desired 🙂

I wonder why Tamiya don't do more new rally cars ? A Tamiya Toyota Yaris WRC would be nice . I' m also looking forward to the Peugeot 306 Maxi kit . It's good that less well known rally cars are being produced in kit form . Beemax Mitsubishi Lancer Turbo a good example . There must be a market out there ! I asked this very question and was told that radio control and military are the 'bigger' markets for them. Apparently 1/24 rally cars don't have as much of a following and are less cost effective/don't produce as much profit. I think the investment to make the tooling for a new car kit runs into the 100's of thousands of pounds and they believe that they just won't sell enough of them to recoup their outlay..

Would love a plastic Talbot Sunbeam and Chevette HSR, but I would probably bankrupt myself if someone did a new, state of the art Mk2 Escort....!! 1 hour ago, Steve Noble said: Apparently 1/24 rally cars don't have as much of a following and are less cost effective/don't produce as much profit. Good job some of the 'smaller' companies don't think the same!

Good job some of the 'smaller' companies don't think the same... I agree, an Escort Mk2 'proper kit" is much needed. The Esci, Revell, Italeri offering is okay, but it needs a fair bit of work to bring it up to modern standards. You know some of those 'smaller' companies are our only source now. I really can't see Tamiya getting back into 1/24 rally anytime soon. It's a real shame as they used to be the best for rally models..
Anteater
One minor gripe is that so many of the new breed of kits are kerbside (sorry, I struggle using the Americanism) and still retail at £40+. Would including engine detail really bump the investment up to uneconomic levels? Yes, some aftermarket engine are available but another £30 on top...? keefr22
However not everyone wants an engine - I hate detailing the things and even in kits that come with them I usually glue the bonnet firmly shut...!! I did however spend 30 quid or so on a resin Twin Cam for one of my Mk1 Escorts as it's my all time favourite lump - whether I'll ever use it is another matter!! Spiny
I noticed that Jag on ebay too, and it took most of my remaining willpower to NOT bid on it, It'll be interesting to see what I resisted when you build it. johnlambert
It looks like these are in stock now, I received an email from Hannants this morning. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/BEL015 No connection with the seller and not a kit I'm particularly after, but I hope some will find this useful. Steve Noble
Quite a variation in price for the Metro kits. I've seen them at full retail £59.99 and as low as £45. Belkits have also just announced the Renault Clio Maxi, Megane Maxi and R5 Maxi Turbo..

(really hope an Ibiza 'kit car' will join them one day!) Keith The only one that interests me is the Renault 5 Maxi turbo, I've been after a kit of that forever. I can pass on the other two. I'm struggling with the Metro 6R4, I'd really like to build three. Jimmy McRae's Rothmans, Tony Ponds Computer Vision and the Belga of Marc Duez, but at £50-£60 each it may be just one I can buy. At the moment I'm swaying towards the Rothmans version, but the other two are just as nice...
keefr22
I'm completely the opposite, not that bothered by the 5Maxi, and can leave all the Metros to you...! The Super 1600/2000 kit cars are some of my all time favourite rally cars, and I still really regret selling the resin 1/24 Fiat Punto and Citroen Saxo I had many years ago.... Scarlet
Just got back from a week away and my 6R4 was waiting for me. A quick look through the box shows that the kit is excellently detailed even down to the co-drivers map light that attaches to the roll cage. Full engine detail including HT leads in a sort of vinyl material on the same sprue as the tyres and mud flaps. Photo etch for seat belt buckles, brake discs, bonnet catches, grills, seat frame and fuel caps. Seat belt material. Metal roof aerial. Self adhesive inserts for mirrors and bonnet badge. And then there is the decals. Printed very similar to Tamiya decals having a very gloss finish and possibly a little on the thick side with a glaring spelling mistake. The co-driver has been renamed Angel Harris! Edited August 5, 2020 by Scarlet Edit for spelling mistake while complaing about a spelling mistake!😂
