1/24 Airfix Spitfire Vb 1435 squadron malta 1942

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I built this as part of the airfix golden years group build. Finished this afternoon and thought i would share here.

I had loads of fun and frustration doing this kit but loved every minute of it.

Added some aftermarket namely HGW belts, master cannon barrels, resin seat and a resin control stick. Used Montex masks for the letters and serial numbers and decals for everything else.

Scratch built wheel well details, and loads of cockpit detail too. There was nothing in there but there is now.

Also scratch built the bomb trolley and made the base.

My first attempt at scratch building. I'm pleased with my efforts.

If you're interested here's the build thread

And on with the photos.

Fabulous and amazingly dedicated work, converting those tired old mouldings into such a convincing replica!

If you excuse my being a bit anal retentive about propellers, a wooden Rotol prop would hardly show metal underneath (unrealistically) worn off paint. 😄

Otherwise, a real tour de force!

Kind regards,

Joachim

Excellent and the current weather conditions is most appropriate so it really looks the part in the sunshine.

Agree with Joachim on the propeller. A minor quibble though. Also remember it's the back of the propeller that suffers from the most weathering particularly in dusty conditions.

Certainly a tour de force.

Wow, superb build.

With a little bit of effort you can integrate the diorama into the Real World™  background, making a great Glamour Shot :D, like in this page:

Thanks very much. They are impressive aren't they. So simple but really clever! Thanks for sharing

Cheers Joachim. Feedback no matter what it is is always appreciated. I toned down the chipping but I still wanted to show a little bit on the propeller to make it fit in with the rest of the build.

I assume the edges of the propeller had a metal trim as daw it somewhere hence the chipping. Thanks for the comments

You've a great eye for a dusty patina - some beautiful finishes on those surfaces Antb.
