A quick look at the parts. Overseen by my Airfix Lightning.

And the decals

Probably won't start building until the Avenger and Thunderbolt are completed.

But in the meantime a reminder of my previous Lightning build - this will be very similar.

  • 2 weeks later...

Started, now that the Thunderbolt and Avenger are completed.

Not going to romp off, as I'll be starting a similarly coloured Mustang next weekend.

Now, here's the pilot in his seat,

And mods for the F2A, shorten the cable ducts, remove the belly guns, and ammo bulge. I've not done this on my other Mbox F2As.

Five minutes of surgery and it's done. Airfix got this right with theirs.

Proceeding with fuselage assembly,

And wings

I'm considering a dynamic take-off pose, full afterburner - what do you all think?

Looking at your progress is giving me a wee memory trip. Remember building this kit with my dad many years ago.

As for the dynamic takeoff pose complete with full afterburner; ooh yes please!

Started the silver powder coating at 1030 this morning, with an airbrush coat of enamel gloss varnish humbrol35.

101_9621.jpg

And an hour later I broke out the silver powder, and cotton buds.

This is the magic moment, just tacky enough to stick the power.

Too wet a gooey mess, too dry and it doesn't stick a all.

And 10 minutes later.

Three pieces of kitchen foil, two full side down for the side panels.

another bright side down for the nose-ring.

Brushed with humbrol 35 varnish for adhesive.

Left for 10 mins to go tacky.

Then applied where it's wanted.

And rubbed down with a cotton-bud.

To this result. I've also foiled and fitted the nose-ring.

Result of an hours work this afternoon.

Matt coated, most of the small details fitted.

Missiles are being painted

This is about as far as I can go, until I've figured out my Viking departure method.
