Ted
I'd like to build a series of figures representing soldiers in various theaters. First up is a Lewis gunner from the Indian Expeditionary Force in Mesopotamia. From 1914 until 1918 this region was contested by British, Indians, Australians, and regional allies like Kuwait on one side and the Ottoman Empire with some Arabic allies on the other. I'm using the gunner from the 1/35 Tamiya LRDG truck kit. I'll replace his head with one of the alternate heads from the Dragon Monte Casino set and change his uniform with putty. For some fanciness, I'll use one of the Resicast Lewis guns I bought to spruce up the LRDG Chevrolet. He'll be posed in an anti aircraft trench. Robert Stuart
This sounds like an interesting project, taking a WWII figure and backdating him.
Ted
Got a bit of work done, added the head, added puttees. I also opened the Lewis gun, very delicate and detailed.
Ted
I got on a bit of a roll with the anti-aircraft trench. I glued up some pine to make a 3.5" x 3.5" x 1.5" block. Then used a Forstner bit to remove most of the material and chopped out some more with a gouge. I'll use putty to build up the earthworks. The trench looks like the right size based on photos, but it seems like too much space for only one figure. I figured the gunner could use a spotter so I picked one out from the ICM ANZAC set and added one of the other optional Dragon heads. I'll modify his arms to pose him with binoculars.
CliffB
I'm already getting a sense of the action, just because the figures are looking upwards. Great stuff.
Robert Stuart
Looking good there Ted. Umm, three is a magic number ... Now that you've added one more figure, could you experiment using three figures? And see what you think about your composition with three rather than two. (RS runs away and hides)

I'll make a deal Robert, if you put a pilot and observer in your Albatross BII then I'll put a third figure on the base. I'm looking forward to seeing your vacuform kit go together btw. Hmm, add a crew, I haven't done that for years. OK, maybe - but I won't hold you to adding the third man if I do.
