1/72 Su-17M2 "Fitter-D"

Recommended Posts

Time for my first build here on Brit modeller, I've gone for a Su-17M2 by mistercraft (formerly master craft). he kit is supplied on five sprues of decent flash free plastic. Included in the kit are drop tanks, rockets,bombs and a reconnaissance pod (although the M2 rarely carried them). To helm the kits overall look I've ordered myself some resin pilots as the kit doesn't have one :(. I'll also be borrowing some bombs etc from the spares box.

And so the cockpit is complete, painted in humbrol 64, the pilot is actually a PJ productions figure and I think fits quite well. Although it means I had to shave the seat down a considerable Amout to make him fit. I added some decals to the seat to spice it up a bit.

After working out what height I need to raise the cockpit tub buy. I used sprue to raise it, I then shoved 13 grams of tack in the nose. and joined the fuselage halves and finally glued the  nose and jet pipe  in place.

Interesting build ... Think I’ll take a seat in the back, and watch the build from there.

If I'm honest, it's a fairly simple build

Update;

Before I went to sleep last night I managed to get the gear, pylons and pitot tubes on the kit so that I could paint it later today.

heres the phtots from last night.

The pylons needed some trimming in order to fit the leading edge of the wing, I also had to cut down the centreline pylons in order to make them the correct height and length.

Conclusion;

A kit I throughly enjoyed building, although master/mistercraft kits have a bad Rep I feel that this kit was as good as any Airfix or revell kit. All the parts fitted with no modifications (except for the cockpit tub being raised and my fuselage pylon mod). The fact the kits wing sweep works in sync gives it a clear advantage over the modelsvit fitters available. Also this is the only M2 version I of the Fitter available so it's definitely worth getting if you love soviet jets. My rating 10/10 :star:
