AV-8S Harrier "Matador" 1/48 - finished!

Recommended Posts

:yahoo:Looking awesome, Werner!

Oh, and I see nature endowed you with a bunch of bananas for fingers as well; kit looks like 1/72nd scale in yer hands. Me too; my Sheila suggest I move to 1/32nd scale instead.

The addition of that seat was so necessary. Glad it fit. It's impressive how much you can add to a kit by taking the time to open up every hole which is supposed to be open on the real thing. Those days when I suffer from AMS the most, I'll open just every grill, NACA, intake, exhaust, etc there is on a 1/48 kit. Obesessive to the max!

Having the right tools for the job helps a lot.

I really like what you're doing with this old kit. Carry on, my mate. About the only thing you could do to improve it would be to rub all the raised detail and scribe it again, but I know that's a lot to ask right now, ain't it? No prob whatsoever.

I've even gotten away by cheating with the addition of the RWR on the tail by chopping it off from an Airfix SHar kit, so I see that you've gone the scratchbuilt path about yers. :worthy:

You gonna add "they're" Aden pods, yeh?

Very nice, Werner. Me's following.

Cheers,

Hello Werner !

Great Matador ! And nice adds !

I second Uncle about the NACA intake, I also opened it whenever I can.

I add a bit of plasticard on the inner side, in the fuselage half since there's no way to see something through it.

Great job on here !

Keep carry on ! Sincerely.

Hola, Werner. ¿Cómo está? (like The Edge in the song Vertigo)

Well, it's up to ye, but the Aden pods in this kit are really nice by comparison to the awful ones in the Tamiya SHar.

Clever thought on the Hunter tanks! Now, if I seem to recall correctly, the tanks on the Academy Hunters had this recessed sort of pool where the pylons join? Did you fill this pool on them? :nerd:

Going awesome, hobbit.

Cheers,

thanks Unc!

decided on using the strakes, my GR.3 already sports guns.....

no, I did not fill up any"pool" because the tanks will be mounted again on pylons! these are the short tanks, remember!

preshaded a bit today, the rest is externally more or less complete for painting! (missed a big antenna on the side somehow.....)

Pitit ìs from Master.

Very well, then; beggars can't be choosers. Now, will "they're" Spanish tolerate it?, me wonders... :hmmm:

You're right! There ain't any pool in the short Hunter tanks. All in all, it was an awesome find I'll be able to use my unpooled Hunter tanks on any of my Harrier builds.

Yer Matador is looking fabulous; me likes!

Yeh, me does...

Might be just me but those strakes look a little close together?

thanks Kirk!

definitely... but, do you have any numbers? from looking at various photos, I came to the conclusion that just outside the front landing gear bay is a valid reference....

Werner, howdy bruh?

For the positioning of "they're" ventral strakes, you've got to take the lower corner of the intake lip as reference. Thought to have read somewhere that they were there to reorient the air disturbance made by the joint of the intake lip and fuselage? :hmmm:

The reference on the Monogram kit is pants.

Here; much better in the Kinetic kit

close enough then I'd say.... :) thanks!

I see! Icould have robbed the tanks form the Sea Harrier kit as well!! ;)

I think the strakes' sense is , is to prevent re-circulation of engine exhaust when in hover.... also the more modern AV-8B/ GR7/9 have similar but larger strakes if no cannon pods are carried,

had to apply a second layer of white...... here she is! ready for decals!

Hola Werner...

Here you are a very interesting pic of 01*805, the "Matador" wich made an emergency landing in Gibraltar, on february, 8th, 1993....The pilot, Captain Antonio Ruibérriz (on the right), asked permission to land in el Peñón. later, the RAF personnel sent him this pic....

Very nicely done, Werner! (even though a Harrier without "they're" Aden guns is just as watching at my sheila without her high-heels)
