Armory Resin AFV Acessories

I've noticed that Hannants carry a substantial stock of Armory accessories for aircraft kits, but as far as I can see, none whatsoever for AFV kits.

The vinyl tyres provided in many AFV kits are essentially unusable, they corrode the kit plastic, thus it is essential to replace them if you intend to build the kit.....At present I'm having to import these items usually from the US and TBH I'm a bit fed up with it, it's not a cheap proposition.

Is there any chance Hannants could start to stock a few of these items.....I'd be particularly interested in wheels for the ACE & ICM BTRs and also the latter's truck kits.  Several modellers hereabouts would probably welcome access to their T-55 turrets (including me), TBH the list just goes on (& on & on & on).

@badger, @SleeperService, @Old pro.....Feel free to back me up here.  ;)

I'll be phoning them tomorrow but yes, bringing in some accessories for kits they sell from aftermarket companies they already deal with would be good. I'm also ordering kits from overseas because I can get the extras at the same time and save on postage too.

More than happy to help with this. If they do a set for trumpeters btr-80 I'd be interested.

They do at least three, more if you want to upgrade it to a BTR-80A.....There's an older set which I believe may be discontinued and what appear to be two new ones:

Plus these for a BTR-80A conversion:

Hoping the latter will fit the ACE kit.

Also there's these:

I mean.....Who wouldn't want one of those!  :P

Thats cool!

Don't know what I'd use it for but I'd find something.

Cheers for the wheels list - I have the replacement hull bottom (which is fitted to the kit) but some new wheels would finish it off nicely.

All the best

Ben

I agree that if Hannants already stock the aircraft accessories, then it should also stock part, if not all the vehicle accessories, although buying from Armory direct is not really a problem (apart from the delivery time). Most of their stuff is fairly nice, some I'm a bit more dubious about, their correction for the BTR 80 lower hull for example, when it's more the upper hull that's the problem with the trumpeter kit, making me doubt the Nona SVK kit ( although I have never seen it) ACE however have come to the rescue with all these, but the replacement wheels would be nice alternative to the Tankograd wheels which are harder to get hold of, the Tankograd MAZ wheels for example are nicer than the Armoury ones, mainly because you get the choice of hubs so they can be used with the MKZT (Iskander) trucks as well.

The ACE BTR tyres are my biggest cause for worry, the instructions warn you to keep them away from the plastic, which is not at all encouraging, plus they just look caustic!

My confidence in the Modelcollect tyres is growing.....They don't have the same greasy 'I'm (chemically) Alive!' feel as ACE, Micromir or Unimodel vinyl (which I know are dodgy), and they are incredibly soft and squishy.  ;)

TBH I just wish kit manufacturers would stop using them period, they are a nasty seventies gimmick and have no place in a modern kit.....Essentially inclusion of these items instantly doubles the cost of any kit you decide to build, because you will very probably want to replace them (unless you are prepared to take the risk that your kit will dissolve).  :wall:

I don't really want to buy these parts.....But I feel I have to.

ACE tyres don't seem to have an issue, just found an old BRDM with rubber wheels, must be at least 15 years old now, and there is no issues, the tyres are still good and they don't seem to have reacted at all with the plastic, I did paint the hubs first mind as suggested, same with my LAV 25 which is possibly even older,  unlike DS plastic that seems to have mixed results, either reacting with the plastic or simply crumbling away. I have replaced all my Modelcollect tyres not so much because of a problem with the rubber, but because of the great mould line through the middle of the tread.

That being said, the ACE tyres do look a bit skinny compared to photos of the AM wheels, but I have never bought any to check. It will be interesting to see how Zvezda's SS 25 and Iskander wheels hold up over time?
