Thank you but you are waayyy too kind. Well I have been busy again including getting some stuff done during the evenings this week. Early on in the week I started assembling some of the smaller units. I do love the way these suspension side units were designed - amazing engineering: But before long I had most of the main parts together. You can see that I had weathered the main hull before fitting the suspension units: Later on I managed to get the tracks on and then returned to adding more mud: While I had the mud out I started adding some to the sides again on the Whippet: Some photos of both together at this stage: Tomorrow I need to get the final bits and pieces added and then I need to complete the weathering on both. That should leave me two weeks to get the figures and base done.........I hope! Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

modelling minion
Absolutely stunning! The painting is fantastic, as usual, and the mud effects are spot on for both of them, not overdone at all. I know you have the base and figures to do but I would be more than happy to have produced two fantastic models like these.

I know you have the base and figures to do but I would be more than happy to have produced two fantastic models like these. Hi Craig and thank you. You are too kind as always. Yesterday turned out to be a busy day on these and I managed to get all the final parts added to the FT-17 and a lot of the mud effects added to both. They still need some bits of weathering adding here and there but I think they are just about ready for the vignette. I was using Vallejo's European mud for the most part, applied using a cocktail stick - together with some stippled on Humbrol 29. FT-17 first: .....and then the Whippet: Both together: I was originally planning on doing one of the odd shaped bases I've made for a couple of my other vignettes but I haven't got the time to do one this time. For now I think I'm going to use one of my Wilco frames and see what I can squeeze into the area before the 11th November: Yesterday evening I started making up some stowage items for the Whippet's two large rear stowage boxes and I think I will try and get the figures assembled and painted during the evenings this week..........we'll see how that goes. The modellers who get asked to contribute to magazines produce far superior models to mine! I am always in awe when I see some of the stuff they make. On 02/11/2018 at 07:37, Andwil said: Beautiful work, I look forward to seeing how you base them. AW Hi AW and thank you very much for your kind comments. Over the past few evenings I have putting the figures I'm going to use together: First thing this morning I gave them a couple of thinned (with water) coats of Revell's Anthracite applied with a medium flat brush: Once dry I got the main colours for the clothing applied - thinned (with water) and applied with a fine pointed brush: Next I gave all the clothing areas that I had painted a wash of very thinned Revell's Gunship Grey and then I used a pointed brush to apply a very thinned wash of Revell's Anthracite in and around any detail - it doesn't show up too well in the photos: These will be dry-brushed next with a lighter version of the base coats. I have also been doing some stuff on the base. As I mentioned above - I'm going to use a Wilco's picture frame as a starting point. To create base for the ground I'm using some old expanded styrene that came from the packaging of some pizzas. It quite a dense styrene and cuts really well. One before cutting: Initial build up of layers - these were glued in place using PVA glue: Once dry - some carving of the edges - using a scalpel blade: Finally today I tried a test fit in the frame: Next I'll get some filler on this. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix Edited November 3, 2018 by PlaStix
modelling minion
A great start on the figures Stix, they look good. The base looks like it will suit very well, a good excuse for eating pizza, if one was needed.

Thank you very much Craig - never need an excuse for eating pizza and these have an added benefit! 13 hours ago, SoftScience said: Superb and inspiring work on the tanks. Hi SoftScience and thank you very much for your very kind comments. 9 hours ago, the South African said: Those figures look smashing mate.Your project is coming together well. Regards: Shaun Hi Shaun. Thank you very much for your comments. More progress today on the figures and the base. The clothing on the figures has now been dry-brushed with a lighter shade of the base colours: Next on these I need to start painting the details. On the base I first got some filler applied: Once the filler was dry I cut out the areas where the tracks would sit - so that it looks like the two tanks have sunk slightly into the mud. I extended the cutout areas backwards so I could add some filler that looked like the mud had been churned up by the tracks: A quick test fit of both tanks: Finally I got some thinned Humbrol Dark Earth applied over the filler: I have got a fair bit done this weekend but I am a bit concerned that I only have one week to get it all together and completed. I will try and get some done in the evenings if I get chance. Comments and suggestions welcome. Kind regards, Stix

Ozzy
Just catching up Stix, fantastic job so far. The camp I’m currently staying in is named after an American (Cpl Roberts), who won the medal of honour driving a FT-17 Renault tank.
