Niknak
Hi all, I have been cracking on with this build and thinned the aries cockpit sides and removed the detail from the kit fuselarge sides. Sprayed all the cockpit parts dark gray then a light coat of rlm 02. Weathered using pastels and model Air aluminium.the Mg magazines were sprayed d gray then brushed painted Humbrol 53 gun metal & straps painted brown. I have used the kit instrument panel & decal(sprayed rlm 66).the rudder pedals are etched brass from the cockpit set with painted cigerette paper cut into strips for the straps. Wheel centers painted saturn black and tyres painted Humbrol 67 havn't weatheted them yet. I have decided to use only the rear part of the cockpit floor of the aries cockpit set & use the kit flour for the pilots cockpit. When I fitted the cockpit sides I noticed the 1st opps moment! The cockpit sills were short. I made extensions then sprayed them to blend them in I have noticed there are a few sink marks on some of the parts.I'll Use liquid plastic to fill them on the parts I'll be using. Liquid plastic applied And after sanding Thanks for looking comments welcomed nick Edited July 15, 2018 by Niknak
stevej60
Hi Nick, great choice and a superb scheme,I built Italeri's smaller scale kit a while ago in this guise and made the mistake of replacing one of the green's with sand not realising the sand painted area's straddled both upper colour's so the original scheme need's painting first then the sand added,Iook forward to seeing it come together.

Thanks Stevej60, I think matching the tan of the snake decal to the tan on the aircraft could be an issue. Think I'll try Italian colours as the rlm 79,79a are to dark. Niknak
Hi all latest update, I have finished painting the radiator fronts. First thay were painted (xtracolor) oily steel when dry a wash of heavily thinned black matt paint was applied and after 20 mins was rubbed over with a cotton bud Popeller was sprayed( colourcoats) rlm 71 & the spinner sprayed (colourcoats) rlm 70 just needs masked and the yellow tip sprayed. Exhausts given a coat of (Humbrol )70 ready for weathering. I am going to used an eduard mg 15 for the gunners position. I have finished the side walls of the cockpit off and fitted the (quick boost) mg 15 magazine rails and rear oxygen bottle (from the aries set) and air pipe is lead wire panted (Humbrol) 67 & moved the box on the cockpit floor to the rear wing spar & the gunners seat towards the radios . To level the floor I used a spacer. Stretched sprue tipped with pva glue then painted for the levers in the pilots cockpit. Kits radios dry fitted, not sure if I'll use them or the aries one. The aries cockpit fitted the airfix kit with no issues. Its ready for the airframe to be joined together. Niknak
Hi all just a quick update airframe is glued together and started the sanding of the joints. Only 4 places were filler was required lower Fuselarge joint behind the wing, one wing leading edge (which could have been my fault as had to split the wing join when the landing light fell inside the wing) & outer wing to inner wing joints. I have done some test spraying of italian colours to match the tan of the snake for the tan of the camouflarge scheeme.the closes colours are (colour coats) giallo mimetico 2 ( gm2) grigio sabbia chiaro (gsc) & giallo mimetico 4 (gm4) I think i'll use the gsc as it is yhe best match. Thanks for looking and comments are welcomed. Nick Edited July 16, 2018 by Niknak
Niknak
Hi all i have decided to finish off painting the spinners yellow tip. I used the tape and circle methord .1st i rapped tape around the spinner then placed the correct diameter ring around the spinner then ran a pencil around it I then flattened the tape with the curve on it and found the curcle which best matched the pencil mark Then used a cutter set to the diameter to produce a ring The ring was used to mask the spinner Then it was sprayed rlm 04 and the mask removed Thanks for looking .comments welcomed .nick 1

Niknak
Hi all, I have finished the sanding of the Seams and putting a few of my mistakes right . I had to extend the elevators using 10 thou plastic card. As the elevators are deflected I have deflected the trim tap (when the elevators were down the trim tap went up) I had to replace the armour In front of the cockpit as I removed the top edge when sanding the top joint. A bit of filler and 5 thou plastic card was used to blend in Fuselarge and the lower window, there were some more sink marks on the wheel spats witch were filled with liquid plastic and sanded. Also I've put a tube through the resin wheels so that thay will fit the wheel spats after I have sprayed them & started to weather the tyre tread by dry brushing the tread with light gray ready for the pastles Thank for looking, comments are welcomed nick Edited August 9, 2018 by Niknak
Valkyrie
Great work, that second picture looks like a real life full size war relic in a hanger under restoration, love that cockpit keep this up!
Niknak
Hi all, I have just noticed in the some of the pictures of this ju 87 that it has the later roll over cage with armour fitted just viable over the shoulder of the bloke in the shirt. Which is not in the kit, so I used 5 thou plastic card to make the armour and fitted it to the kit roll over cage I have also removed the Web between the inner and outer flaps After I finished masking it ready for spraying.(the canopies were masked using the eduard masks for the airfix b-1, the interior frames were sprayed rlm 66 before thay were fitted) I realised I had not fitted a gun sight doh! (I don't think airfix has one in the kit) so I am going to use a copy of a bf 109 e's I have cast and paint it read for the lenses. to be fitted in to the cockpit after the masks are removed ( think there are going to be some choice words when I'm fitting it through the open cockpit) Thank for looking comments are welcomed. Niknak
Hi all, here is the latest update, I have started the painting of the airframe. Paints that I'll be using xtracolor for the rlm 65,70,71. I first sprayed the rlm 65 lower surface using my badger 200 g using a fine needle & tip. I decided to spray the 70,71 on the spats only, (I had some of the 65 lift when I removed the masking tape, a quick sand with 3000 grade sand paper and a touch up & all's good again). so I could stand it on them to spray the upper surface I then masked of the demarcation between the lower & upper surface the sprayed the rlm 71 Then after 2 hours masking the splinter camouflage then 30 mins spraying the rlm 70 I removed the masking tape. (I don't like leaving masking tape on to long as I've found the longer it's left the greater the chance of lifting the paint when I remove the tape). Next step is to spray the Italian sand. Thanks for looking, comment are welcomed. Nick Edited August 9, 2018 by Niknak

For the sand colour think I'm going to use a mix of giallo mimetico 4 & grigio sabbia chiaro 60 - 40. To try to match the colour of the decals. As the sand will be sprayed free hand any touch ups are going to be a pain Edited August 11, 2018 by Niknak

Niknak
Hi all, I have sprayed the sand over the 70, 71 scheme. I used photos of the aircraft for the fusalarge and used artistic licence for the wing pattern. I still have a few touch ups of the rlm 70/71 to do and some changes to the sand colour on the fin. I used a kit decal to mask off the Fuselarge cross where the rlm 71 shows where the cross is missing. The wheels, cooling grills and prop have just been temporary fitted Thank for looking, and comments are welcomed. Niknak
Hi all, I have finished the touch ups and modifying the fin camouflage and applied a coat of Johnson's clear and started to apply the decals.the snake is a 4 part decal which makes it easier to apply.(head, tongue, body & tail). I'm very happy with the match of the decals and the mixing of the paints I did. I have noticed the decal setting liquid has reacted with the Johnson's by the wing walkway. Which will require fettling Thanks for looking, comments are welcomed. Nick Edited August 17, 2018 by Niknak

Niknak
Hi all, all the decals have been applied except 1 I am planing to put another letter of the factory code on the inside of the under wing cross (but I'm waiting for the decal sheet to be delivered) . I have only applied the stencils to the lower surfaces as the aircraft was resprayed in the field so The ones on the upper surface were probably over sprayed and not reapplied , cockpit canopie has been weathered and mat varnished,The reaction of the decal setting solution and Johnson's needs touch up and then it's ready for matt varnishing. I applied the fusalarge Cross then used a knife to remove the cross to show the rlm 71 paint beneath it I have also been doing the exhausts and bombs ( I have decided to use eduard bombs as thay have the sirens on the tail fins only because this ju 87 has not the sirens fitted) I have used ground pastels to weather the exhausts. Thanks for looking, comments are welcomed. Nick Edited August 19, 2018 by Niknak
