Southport evening airshow 2018

Good afternoon fellow bashers of plastic.

Each year I try to get to the Southport Airshow, and this year was no exception.  Normally the show is held over an evening and two days in September, but this year ( I believe due to tides) it was pushed forward to 6th to 8th July.  Normally this results in some very dark skies on the Friday evening for the pyrotechnics but this year the lighting was a little unhelpful.  That said, I had a thoroughly enjoyable Friday evening there watching a unique display. Over the evening I took around 200 photos, but as I am not that good a photographer I managed to whittle it down a bit.  Photos taken using a Sony DSC-HX300 bridge camera.

Proceedings were opened in fine style by the Red Arrows

Despite the high temperatures the Reds still managed to rip moisture out of the air

The evening sun gave some nice effects

Yes, there were other things with wings

It was good to see the Hurricane back at Southport.  Last year there was the issue with the Merlins

And of course, the sleek lines of the Spitfire

Just at the right time, some clouds formed to create a nice moody effect

The Blades put on a spirited display, I even managed to catch one of the breaks

The setting sun created yet another change, giving rise to silhouettes.

The Fireflies have a superb display with the coming of the dark.

With a show rounding out with Otto the Helicopter.  As barking mad as always.

Yes, this is apparently intentional!

That is the ones worth showing.

I also did the Saturday show, so will put some more up later.
