bigbadbadge
Hi all After finishing the lovely Ventura I have been wanting to build this for a long time and have finally built the bullet. It is OOB really with the seatbelts being added in the cockpit from Tamiya Tape, the control wires will also be added too. Painted in Humbrol 56 by the hairy stick Black paint and red leading edge painted Decals going on. The carrier film on the decals had yellowed. The decals did not break apart which was surprising. They took some work to get them settled though. I have now painted the carrier film Alluminium so that it is not noticeable. I have added the break rods to the U/C legs. Engines and cowls painted and will be added soon. Working on props at the mo with Humbrol metalizer polished ally. I can post some more photos soon. Thanks for looking in Chris Edited August 4, 2018 by bigbadbadge Premature submission
TheRealMrEd
Great job so far! I had been looking to start on mine. Hopefully, your build will give me the courage. Press on! Ed 1
stevehnz
I like the look of this Chris, having one in stock. By the look of your WiP, you haven't had too many problems with the fit of it. I'm looking forward to the final reveal. Steve. Edited July 8, 2018 by stevehnz
dogsbody
Though it's a bit late, I quite sure airliners of this vintage would not have shoulder harness for the crew. Most fighter aircraft of that age only had lap belts. Otherwise, that is one great looking built. Very nice. Chris
bigbadbadge
Thanks for your kind comments. Steve the model has gone together very nicely and has been a real pleasure to build. Thanks Chris for pointing that out. I don't know what I was thinking. All the best Chris

Sgt.Squarehead
Lovely work.....That corrugated surface texture is utterly terrifying, hugely impressed that you've kept it intact on a putty-monster like this old kit! 1
bigbadbadge
Thanks guys for your kind comments. Amazingly I only needed to add one piece of styrene rod that I pared down to half it's thickness on the top of fuselage side/roof joint on the port side. All the rest fitted very nicely. I have added the two engine and cowls under the wings and am currently working on the cable guides on the rear portion of the fuselage further the rudder and elevator cables out of some scrap photo Etch carrier or sprue. rob Lyttle
Wow! That's the way to do it!! How old is the Airfix product? I'm taking a look because I've got the old Monogram kit, you know, with the dog sled and Arctic figures. I'm wondering how they compare. If it goes together half as good as this, I'll be well pleased. Great looking brush painting too
AdrianMF
No hanging about there then! Very nice. The metal finish looks very convincing too. Regards, Adrian
bigbadbadge
Hi all Thanks Adrian. Bit more progress, wheels on along with mudguards, two of the engines and cowls on. Cable guides made from Etched steel fret. I am going to slice .5mm brass rod for the guides themselves. bigbadbadge
Hi all Done some more on the Trimotor. I have got the elevator and rudder wires in place and I have used 0.5 mm tube cut into tiny lengths as cable guides. The wire is represented by invisible thread. On the front end and underneath the front engine and exhaust are in place although I need to do some remedial repairs on this as the front mount on what looks like a silencer snapped off (it did not line up with the hole for it ) and paint the exhaust shroud again. fjaweijfopi4j48
I have two Airfix and two Monogram boxes, a bit of a fan of the type I am afraid. Oh, the irresistible lure of those corrugations! 😉

Biggu
Masterful job for sure, I LOVE what you did for the control cables.......I have one of these in the stash, and as thinking of trying to cover it with foil.......... also a set of Alaska Star decals from Draw decals, but as a hint for a try next time for the yellowing decals, as I'm sure you may already know, if you have set of decals that have yellowed, try putting the decal sheet in the sun for a few days on a window sill, that will take the yellow away and your decals will be good to go...... I'm sure you guys all know that anyway...... again a masterful job, I love the looks of her........
bigbadbadge
Hi Biggu thank you for your kind words. I was advised of this a few years ago but I forgot about it and when I realised impatience got the better of me and I could wait no longer !!! Give your kit a go it went together well with only the middle section of the exhaust that wouldn't line up with the locating hole. Foil will be very interesting too. Thanks and all the best Chris
heloman1
Hi Chris, she's looking rather splendid. it was my original choice for the 'Airfix Golden Years GB' but then I looked at the rigging, which scared me. So I plumbed for the Canberra, now I'm stuck with re-scribing panel likes... Colin
