GWH 1/48 F-15C

Recommended Posts

Another F-15C. This time Great Wall's F-15C in its MSIP II guise. The Great Wall kit is excellent and goes together very well, a pleasure to build. I might do another one to have all the hatches and engines open.
Rather than use the kit decals I used Caracal decal sheet to finish it as 84-0019, an F-15C of the 493rd FTS at Lakenheath. It is sprayed in Xtracrylix 36251  and 36176. I also used Aires engine exhausts as replacements for the kit items.

great looking build - better than the 20+ year old Hasegawa offerings (which are great)??

I'm now googling for some more reviews - like what weapons fit & drop tanks does GWH offer etc

thank you for posting

Exhausts are the onky place an inprovement is advisable over then plastic parts, no?

I had the exhausts from a previous project and I thought they looked a little better. The kit comes with two full engines that slot in. They looked OK though.

It comes with the three tanks, 2xAIM9Xs, 2xAIM120As and 2xAIM120Cs. I've fitted them all!

Very nice looking Eagle. I'm just finishin the old Tamiya F15C, not quite as high tech as modern offerings but still enjoying the build and my first with an airbrush. One quick question, the two green stars on the nose, are they kill markings? Pardon my ignorance but they've piqued my interest

yes they are kill markings, The 493d @ Lakenheath at one point had quite a collection of various Killers on their books (not sure if they've been rotated out now). So some F-15s got kills whilst flying in OPs over Serbia/Bosnia (whilst actually part of the Lakenheath 493rd) whilst some of their machines are transferred from previous units that the airframes got kills in Desert Storm. Originally the kill markings were painted as little flags, but since he USA has become friends with Serbia & Iraq, the flags were deemed inappropriate so have changed to Green Stars.

Without doing the Wiki search, the above answer is fired from memory, but was what I was told when I visited the sqn about 10 years ago.

Thanks Dereknf for the answer ref the kit supplied weapons, if I may push my luck with a follow on question to your excellent build, s the BitBurg F-15 also GWH (with the -9Ms & Sparrows?) - thank you

That's the first GWH F-15 I have seen made up and it looks great. I will have to take a peek inside the GWH F-15B/D kits I have here to see what they look like in the 'flesh'.
