Redstaff
Wow, that's one of the best cockpits I've seen, the attention to detail is superbĀ š²
danielwood5
That's incredible attention to detail, this is going to look amazing when it's finished. Really impressed with your work and your knowledge, thanks for all the tips you've passed on, it's really helpful.Ā
Biggles87
Indeed a really well done cockpit. This is one GB I would have joined if I had any 1/48 P-47s,Ā I have one in 1/32 but would need 6-9 month ( Minimum ) to build it. looking forward to more. Tbolt
Managed to get a bit more work done.Ā Ā Here's the oil cooler outlets and doors fitted. Ā Ā Ā The intercooler outlets fitted. The outlet ducting is painted OD but looks like ZC because I was using a flashlight to light things up. Ā Ā Ā Ā The wings together, gun panel inserts and nav lights fitted. The gear bays have only received a wash and will get more weathering when the rest of the airframe gets done. Ā Ā Ā Ā Everything installed in the right fuselage half. Ā Ā Ā Ā Fuselage glued together. Ā Ā Ā Ā Fuselage seems treated and panel lines restored. Wings attached, flapsĀ and pylons added as well as the tail planes. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā The lovely Vector tail planes and elevators. The attachment points to the casting blocks are on the hinge point so they need a bit of careful cleaning up to get a good fit. To get them to sit nice in the down position I had to remove a little more material also. Ā Ā Ā Ā The firewall assembly. A piece of matt black painted plasticard was used at the back of the intake to prevent any see through. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā I wanted to add a couple of 1000 lb bombs to the wings and I was going with the CMK ones. I folded up the etch fins and then found they didn't fit on the bomb body. I then pulled out the CMK 500 lb bombs and compared them - they have used the same etch fret, albeit now marked 1000 lb bomb, for the 1000 lb bomb set! Strangely enough the large bomb has larger fins! I have emailed CMK to tell them about this, but just don't but this set as it's a waste of money. I will scratch build some fins for them at some point ( and use these fins on the kit 500 lb bombs ), but due to the time restraints of the GB I had the Attack Squadron 1000 lb bombs available also so I've gone with those. Below you can see the Attack Squadron bomb next to the CMK fins showing the size difference. Ā Ā Ā Ā The torque linksĀ have had the lightning holes drilled in the and attached to the gear legs. A bit of wire added to simulate the brake pipe and hose. Ā Ā Ā Hopefully I'll get some paint on her next week as time is running out! Biggles87
Looks like a P-47 now. Ā I like the hydraulic lines on the u/c legs, something I always plan to do but never seem to get around to. Ā John
Thom216
Ugh! I forgot to put some mesh into the oil cooler outlets on mine!! Ā Oh well. Yours is looking downright great! Keep it up!

Tbolt
Sorry for the lack of updates, I've been busy trying to get her finished. Ā ( Again if you want to see the pictures sharper and with better colour, click on them ). Ā Painting done. The underside is painted HumrbolĀ 126 mixed with H106. I used Humbrol 155 lightened with a bit of white for the faded OD using Blu-tack sausages for the demarcation line.Ā I was going to use Humbrol 116 and 155 for the fresh OD but due to the inconsistency of Humbrol enamels, some of which can be sprayed finely and some of which can't and these colours couldn't be, I switched to a much better quality enamel and used Colourcoats OD lightened a little with Interior Green, which sprayed nice and fine. Alclad Aluminum was used for the NMF areas and Colourcoats True Blue withĀ a little Humbrol 126 to dull it down a little. Ā Ā Ā Ā Cowl, cowl flaps and the spinner. On the spinner IĀ drilledĀ four shallow hole and then a smaller hole in the middle of them to represent the fasteners. Ā Ā Ā Ā The completed engine assembly. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā After some gloss, weathering and decals this is how she looks. Ā Ā Edited September 28, 2018 by Tbolt
Biggles87
Great weathering. Could you do some finished pics in black and white please? I reckon it will match there periodĀ photo Ā at the beginning of the thread pretty well. Ā John

Now I've go the matt coat on I'm thinking I should have made the fresh OD a little darker as the contrast between the two OD's is a bit less, but hopefully it will look reasonable.

Tbolt
Nearly there... Ā Ultracast wheels, Eduard BrassinĀ 75 gallon drop tank and the Attack Squadron 1000 lb bombs. Ā ( I've made the pictures smaller so there are sharp without having to click on them, but Chrome is still muting the colours in this forum ). Yes the gun blast tube are painted.Ā They were painted with Alclad Aluminum, then "fresh" OD. Before the OD completely dried I used a sharp cocktail stick to chip them. It was common in the 19th FG to paint them ( obviously without primer! ),Ā here's a couple of 19th FG aircraft, the Last one is Big Squaw in a photo which looks like it was soon after the paint touch up. Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Here's you can see the sand dirt/mud that has built up on a 19th FS aircraft. Ā Edited September 29, 2018 by Tbolt
