Hello Everybody well here is my Thunderbolt, i used the Academy Thunderbolt Razorback. I built “4F” a P-47D Thunderbolt from the 356th Fighter Group, 8th A.F. Fighter command, circa September 1st 1944. This is part of a bigger project of mine to build a diorama of the weekly planning meeting of 8th A.F. Fighter command and this is the 3rd build i have completed of 15 aircraft. Without further talk I present to you 4-F.

OK, I'd better post this before it suddenly becomes October without me noticing!

My contribution is this pair of Razorbacks, both from the Academy 1/72 kit but with decals from a variety of sources (Xtradecal, Kagero and Kitsworld). Miss Mutt was the personal aircraft of Lt Col R R Rowland, the XO of the 348th FG in 1943, based in Papua New Guinea. Kansas Tornado II was flown by Capt H Curran of the 510th FS in 1944.

Thanks to all for their advice and assistance, above all of course to the mods. There have been some splendid and inspiring builds in this GB.

Afternoon everyone,

I have fiddled enough now and am in danger of either dropping the thing (very nearly did!) or breaking bits off through general clumsiness so I took some final pictures and will draw a line under it!

So..Tamiya's quite excellent OOB 1/48 Republic P-47D Thunderbolt "Bubbletop" the only additions I made were with some Eduard PE cockpit details and general placards, some additional detail to the engine and a scratch built bomb lift trolley.

The model is built using the kit decals and represents an aircraft of the 78th Fighter Group's 84th (WZ) Fighter squadron based at Duxford in 1944. In the end I decided I didn't want to ruin the NMF which I was quite pleased with by varnishing the whole thing, so I picked out only the decals with some thinned Winsor & Newton Galleria acrylic varnish and I think it worked reasonably well.

Hope you like it.

This is my entry, the Tamiya Thunderbolt in 1/48th scale built as a P-47D-20 from the 19th FS, 318th FG. I scratch build a few extra parts for the cockpit and the exhaust manifold. I used an Ultracast seat and wheels, the Vector update set, which includes the open cowl flaps, intercooler exhausts, intake/oil cooler intake splitter and the tail planes with the separate elevators. Oil cooler outlets came from QuickBoost, the the 75 gallon drop tank is from the Edaurd Brassin range and the 1000 lb bombs are from Attach Squadron. Decals are from Thundercals.

My build thread with more pictures can be found here

This was my first GB and I really enjoyed it, though next time I won't leave so much to do till the last two weeks! But the good thing is that I finished a kit a lot quick than I usually would as I'm most of the time I'm work on several kits at a time.
