Airfix 'Bronze' Spitfire +++ COMPLETED +++

Recommended Posts

Really like this idea, and very well done it is. I don't think its an odd thing to do, I really enjoy looking at the built examples at the model show manufacturers stands where its just the bare plastic with no paint at all it allows you to see the form of the subject without distraction from markings and camo etc.

I got home from work last night and had a rather large glass of the old vino...

...maybe not the best idea - but - I wasn't happy with the stand - as it didn't allow for any movement - so I had decided to build a new one.

I needed something with a 'bit of weight' to it - so settled on a 20mm acrylic 'slab'...

I measured up to create a hole for a rod in the middle...

...wine and power tools - what could possibly go wrong...

As it happens I  got away with it - but on reflection it maybe wasn't the brightest idea.  Anyway - I prepared the booth and gave it a grey undercoat / followed by a black base / followed by a mix of the two bronzes and a little more black to give it some definition as it was quite a big flat surface with no 'detail'...

A 'proper' chunky slab.  Whilst this was drying I needed to fil the old stand hole in the Spit and make a new one to insert a bent copper pipe...

This morning it had all dried and I'm happy with the result - 'more dynamic' I hope...

I'll pop it in the finished gallery now...

BTW - Thanks for all the support and comments along the way folks - Steve.

I go on holiday for a couple of weeks and come back to see that you've taken my ramblings about bronze Spitfires seriously.

Are you mad man!

Mind you it looks better than those church bells you melted down.

(You might need to quadruple the length of the runway though).

That sounds like you're accepting responsibility, but delegating the blame.

Did your mum ever say, “And if they told you to jump off a cliff would you?”

To which the obvious reply is “If you keep going on, don't temp me”.

It's fun making comments and someone making it….

Lead Hindenburg?

Lard Tiger tank?
