exdraken
SyAAF Gloster Meteor F.8 Airfix 1/48 IsraDecal this morning's decision to take part in this promising GB! That is one of the candidates, I think a good and not too common one! hope you like it! Do you think I need any other aftermarket? Wheels? Cockpit/ MB Mk.II seat? state of today....absolutely untouched cheers, Werner Edited October 20, 2018 by exdraken
Possibly Apocryphal
Nice choice! This will be one to watch.
Wez
Werner, I'm glad you didn't take too much prompting to join this GB, I love the Meteor and it will be great to see it in different markings. I must confess though, that in spite of owning one of these kits I've never looked beyond what after market stuff there is out there beyond decals! I'm sure you'll find what you need though. Good luck in the GB.

With molded on or without! Compared to a Neomega Seat (very small!) And a SBS seat (a bit smaller than Airfix) it is quite ok! Cockpit is very good, The kit's plastic in generally is very soft, but with good detail! Looks fun! Edited June 24, 2018 by exdraken
Giorgio N
Welcome to the GB ! Can't help with the seat unfortunately, hopefully someone will come back with a good solution. May well be that adding a few extra bits to the kit seat will give you a good result
exdraken
hi, some photos might help and illustrate the cockpit questions: kit seat vs the SBS rendition (actually found in the Hunter cockpit set; only now it is clear to me that this is simply the eraly MKII seat and not the more usual MKIII found in later Hunters!) looks quite ok.... when replacing the seat belts with PE ones?? and in the cockpit: there is also a Pavla models option, that could be an alternative... looks way nicer, but size wise I have of course no idea yet.... S48022 MB. Mk. 2F (image from pavla models) or a S48025 MB.Mk.2B (for the T.7 only ??) (image from pavla models) what would you experts say?!?!! Cheers, Werner Edited June 25, 2018 by exdraken
Sanjuro
The seat used in the Meteor was the Mk 2E. Only the very first Meteors had the Mk 1 seat. Giorgio N
I compared your pictures with the ones of a real Meteor F-8 cockpit in the WWP book on the type and the Airfix kit is the more accurate of the two, both in size and shape. Detailwise of course the SBS one is better, but really is not tall enough, something that also throws the proportions off. The Pavla seats look nicer, but of course we don't know if the size is right. Both look slightly different in some details, makes sense as none is a Mk.2E, but they would all be details that can be easily modified. As I mentioned the WWP book, I may add that this a very useful publications if superdetailing is your thing and the publisher is selling them at a very interesting price... http://wwpbooks.com/en/aircraft/159-meteor-fmk-8-in-detail.html (No connection with WWP, just a happy customer) 1
exdraken
Hi all, thanks for your feedback and suggestions regarding the seat! as I wanted to do a relatively quick i ordered yesterday aftermarked goodies costing 2 times the kit itself...... without counting the Isradecal decals! So a lot of PE, resin wheels, and the Pavla resin seat (MB. Mk. 2F model) are hopefully on their way from the Uk to Austria (Brits Abroad spirit, no? ) Edited June 28, 2018 by exdraken
exdraken
so.... my highly desired and necessary and build time upspeeding AM parts arrived today! quite a package, I will not use everything I guess! (so need to buy another kit.... 😜 ) PE for the cockpit (including the seat ), Flaps, wheel bays and engines... Resin wheels and some spent cartridges smalll parts.... and the Pavla MK 2 F seat on the right size wise and detail wise it looks very good to me! cheers, now its time to really start working!!
Giorgio N
That's quite a lot of stuff you have there ! I'm expecting a very detailed model... 👍 The Pavla seat does indeed look like the best of the bunch, products from this company have been of variable quality in the past but this one looks very good. Have to say in favour of Pavla that their resin stuff have always been good value for money though
exdraken
no time to loose! cockpit PE for the IP only (in my case...) I will open up the port side cannon bay and I also guess the engine bay.... the Eduard PE fits fantastically - but does it need to? and some work on the landing gear bay PE: the plastic parts look busy, but the PE looks better imho!
exdraken
some work on the cockpit, and closing the fuselage! Edited July 15, 2018 by exdraken
exdraken
so, lets update again... if you are fed up, please tell me PE nightmare - or great improvement? was fun to do, if worth the effort, no idea! cheers, Werner
coneheadff
I thinks it's worth it. Let's see how it looks with some paint on
Giorgio N
WOW ! It sure was worth it ! The wheel wells in particular are now way more realistic than with the kit parts, I believe only PE can give that kind of effect. I shudder at the thought of bending and gluing all those PE parts, as this is one of those things where my patience is really tested to the limit, but for those modellers who can handle the stress the reward is great. Well done ! 1
exdraken
some PE parts, sorry, not the best photo background for those lower wing parts mounted, unfortunately without removing the flap areas... so no PE falp interior this time!" next one for sure!- fingers crossed! RMP2
Im liking this a lot. Will follow it all and consider one for my 2 Sqn shelf. Oh - what are you using to bend n glue all that fiddly PE? Youre doing a really nice job of it.

CA super glue, patience, and sharp tweezers... not all fits that perfectly, but the overall effect is there! obviously it was time to move it to the top of the bench again have been absent here for way too long ! caused by all the PE in the gear bay, fit is not the best anylonger... that is why all the clamps the starboard engine bay will be opened, the other closed.... do you have any good photos or ideas of in-service colors of the engine area and bay? zink cromate or silver for the bays? thanks! RMP2
I found a few engine photos here: https://defenceoftherealm.wordpress.com/2015/06/29/gloster-meteor-f-8/ And on Flickr: Aha! And a walkaround here: https://airfixmodelworld.keypublishing.com/2016/04/04/gloster-meteor-f-8-walk-round/ Hope that helps. 2

Roland Pulfrew
This is coming together beautifully! Don’t know if you’ve ever looked at Google Maps/Earth but there seems to be lots of Meteors lying around on Syrian Air Force airfields today. This is the airfield to the east of Aleppo from Google Maps: I wonder if enough bits could be collected to make an airworthy Meteor??!? 3
