For new members please read the rules on buying & selling here on the site. Thx

Britmodeller welcomes the buying, selling and trading of kits and other modelling items between members for their own benefit, and not for any business purposes. However like all walks of life there have to be some rules put in place to facilitate this and keep members safe from any undesirable element. These rules have evolved over the time Britmodeller has been running and we would ask all members follow them.

  • Only post items for sale/wanted/for trade in the buy sell area and nowhere else on the site. We would ask for no commercial trading in the buy/sell area. If you are a trader and would like to sell here, please contact the moderating team and arrange for your own forum. Sales of models and modelling related material only. We dont want to buy your old sofa!
  • Kits must be yours. No sales for other people.
  • If you wish to use this area we ask that you have 100 genuine posts on the forum. This protects from people just joining the forum to offload items for sale, as well as scammers looking for a quick con. Please do not spam the forums just to generate 100 posts. If you have less than 100 posts you still may approach a member to buy or trade but please don't be offended if they refuse.
  • Links to eBay are not allowed. The buy/sell area is to promote free trade on Britmodeller.
  • Make your pricing clear, and whether postage is included in the item price or not. If not included then provide a separate postage costs. If you are unsure of international costs provide at least a domestic cost. It is a good idea to mention your location. It is recommended that insured postage is used.
  • If you don't want to post overseas, please say so.
  • If using PayPal then dont ask for this to be as a gift and for the sender don't send as a gift to include the PayPal protection service. If you would like to add in a cost for paypal fees then include this in your listing. Please don't use multiple PayPal accounts as this can look suspicious.
  • Please package a kit as you would expect to receive it. Package to ensure (as best you can) that no damage occurs in the postal system. Remember, you are liable until the parcel is delivered, unless you are sending items insured.
  • Report any unsolicited contact with regard to trading. The Buy/Sell area is to enable the visible trade between members. Anyone operating outside of this area might have something to hide.
  • Only one thread per person per section. To respect other users, don't bump more than once per day and don't post unnecessary comments to bump either.. If you have additional items to add, just edit your existing topic.
  • Please do not post in topics in the Buy/Sell area unless you are directly involved in wanting to buy/sell/trade therein.
  • Problems. If you suspect there is a problem communication is the key with the other party. Please refrain from posting in the bad trader section unless this can't be avoided. Communicate with the moderating team if you suspect something is not above board.
  • Remember all transactions in this area are at your own risk, and conduct yourself accordingly. While the moderating team will do their best to help with problems, there is no guarantee we can do so.

We will endeavor to contact members who's posts breach the rules before removing any posts, but please be aware that posts not meeting the site criteria may be deleted without warning. The buy/sell area is a privilege for members, not a right. Frequent abusers of these rules may find their access to this area revoked.

When dealing with individuals over the net, Dave Fleming came up with the following guidelines for your information and protection:

The basic rule here, I'm afraid, has to be 'Trust No-one' unless you know exactly who they are. In my previous career as a Trading Standards Officer, I've seen plenty of people duped by a clever scam artist, or sending money to a plausible conman. Usually, it is very difficult to get that back. So unless you know the person, or he can be vouched for by reliable other forum members, the advice I would make is:

  • Don't use PayPal - ask for a physical address to send a cheque to.
  • Try and get a definite Identification, ask for references of previous trades.
  • If buying from a trader, and the amount is over £100, use a credit card rather than Paypal - you have protection against the CC company if something goes wrong. That is not the case if you use PayPal.
  • If something appears too good to be true (a long out of production accessory etc) then it probably is.
  • If you have doubts, ask for a picture of the item along with suitable identification, so you can prove they actually have it.
  • think twice! And think 'Can I afford to lose this money if something goes wrong?'

Lastly if you no longer need your thread, could you please indicate this to the Mods by changing the topic title to "PLEASE DELETE", and reporting it using the Report button. This will help us keep the areas tidy and free from clutter.
