theplasticsurgeon
Jumping in with this kit - I gather it's already considered the most ropey box: Huge thanks to Julien, who supplied me with some decals.

BIG X
Bagsy I get the rear turret gunners position - daga daga daga daga - There goes another Jap... This looks like it could be a lot of fun. 2
theplasticsurgeon
A peek inside the battered box Those Academy decals from Julien (thanks) enable me to make this TBM3. And I'm looking into whether a darkened underside is appropriate. I found a pic of one from the attacks on Tokyo time.
stevehnz
Tim, if you google VT-84 Avenger, you'll get plenty of photos as well as profiles, die cast models etc, I'm not seeing any dark undersides, the Avengers wings folded in such a way that the undersides were not exposed from above, unlike a Corsair for instance. I did wonder what you were doing with those decals, exactly the same plan as I have for rebuilding my one in time, I have a Academy TBF which will become a Tarpon, probably with Frog decals. I'm keen to see how this comes together. You'll need a good gloss surface & plenty of decal set or even better Klear to stop them silvering. Steve.

Here are some photos of VT(n)90. Found the photo’s on google so ownership belongs to the original owners. Just posting for informational purposes. theplasticsurgeon
That's the sort of thing I'm looking for. Just realised they're all radar equipped though. Edited June 21, 2018 by theplasticsurgeon more info
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello @theplasticsurgeon ... Do you have anything in the spares bin that could be used for the radar pod ?
stevehnz
Tim, AFAIK, VT-84 as shown in the photo in your post above did not operate RADAR equipped night night bombers. The decals you got from Julien will only be suitable for one with Insignia White undersides, but, if you want to adapt them to something like the ones Dennis has posted, then that's a whole different story. Steve. That matches the conclusion I've arrived at, thanks Steve. Anyway, that's the build I'll do.
theplasticsurgeon
Just done some interior painting, and de-seaming of parts. before this really gets going , here are my ae as earlier Airfix Avengers. First in typical FAA scheme. Not the correct version for this scheme, I learned after the event. Overall blue US Navy scheme And a post-war FAA plane. theplasticsurgeon
Well, kicking off with some interior decoration, and pre-assembly. Glazing is so mankey, this build may well be blacked out cockpit. Edited July 2, 2018 by theplasticsurgeon More info
