Sgt.Squarehead
Iron Skies was quite well researched by recent documentary standards I thought.

3DStewart
"A spokeswoman emphasized that Revell explicitly distances itself from any kind of glorification of wars and the Nazi period." If this was true they wouldn't produce any German WWII subjects. I wonder if the real reason for it's withdrawal is poor sales?

Given its a much cheaper rebox of the Squadron kit thats been around for a little while now, I don't think there is much at stake for Revell. jsut a slow news day methinks. Thomo. Even 2400 km2 would be a square with sides 48.9km long and that would be a quarter of the area of the Big Island. Yes my mistake, that should be 25 Square Kilometres.

PhantomBigStu
Whilst the cynic in me defiantly thinks poor sales is involved I can definitely believe they we’re pressured into the decision by a certain crowd, the problem is and has been seen in other hobbies, they start with an inch, and one day come for the mile, hoping down the road this isn’t the start of a trend. Beardie
The establishment globally is scared, really scared, at the moment and wants to stamp out anything that may influence the disillusioned. We know that this is a bit of fun, 'what if' subject based on tidbits, rumours and legends but there are people who will believe this is real and that they are being lied to. Unfortunately they don't seem to get that stamping out and banning things has a negative psychological effect on the average human making them more inclined to object. Where would the Sex Pistols have been if they had been ignored by the press and authorities?

Beardie
Oh that's agreed but they would never have achieved the fame they did without their being condemned in the media and being the subject of bans, People never hear that something is proscribed and just stop doing it, they want to know why and, in an atmosphere of mistrust, will be willing to listen to even the most outlandish theories. I daresay that copies of the Haunebu kit will rise in price as well now it's a 'limited edition'. I am often puzzled why people don't really seem to understand human nature. Tell someone they can't have something and they will move heaven and earth to get it.
Kev The Modeller
Like the Sex Pistols if you ban anything it almost instantly becomes the number one thing most want to see/hear/own etc, you never know could be a sales ploy to sell out of their stock! Who knows.....................

Who is this'Global Establishment' of which you speak? 🌐👥The Illuminati? In any case the disillusioned have made their wishes clear of late. Stay off those conspiracy websites. In any the Hannebu did exist. I saw a factual documentary about UFOs on the History Channel. The kept them at their secret base in Antarctica. Everyone knows that.🤨
Jon Kunac-Tabinor
On the other hand: A firm making models of subjects from the Nazi-era might be regarded as merely creating scaled versions of existing historical artefacts, whereas a model of a "Napkinwaffe" spaceship might lead one to suppose the company was affirming a notion that Nazi Germany continued for longer that it did- with all the intended horrific historical consequences that would have had. That could be seen by some as supporting it- I stress by some. The interesting thing is Revell's press release at the end: "Revell is currently looking into how a product of this nature was developed and brought onto the market. The development of a new product usually takes the manufacturer at least one year. Product managers are responsible for the development of models and toys and sometimes suggestions from fans are taken into consideration." i.e. We don't want to admit we boxed a kit for someone else without anyone thinking it might look a bit odd for a German company to market a make-believe Nazi gun-laden UFU wonder-weapon model via toyshops like it's a Messerschmitt 109!! FWIW I always thought the machine was an odd choice for Squadron to come out with in the first place; but given that, to quote someone from a well known specialist book publisher when asked what sells the best, "Anything WW2 and German, and if it's definitely Nazi even better, and if its definitely Waffen SS even better still". Couple that with the "Flying Saucer" sci-fi aspect, and I guess we know why! Jonners

Beardie
@noelh The 'Global establishment' is exactly that, the currently operating established governments, there was no veiled meaning there. I simply state that current governments are very worried that things may get out of hand and so they are trying to remove what they see as ammunition for extremist groups. Unfortunately banning things tends to add momentum to the ball rather than putting the brakes on due to simple human nature. I don't believe the conspiracy theory stuff on the whole because most super wealthy and powerful people are just not that clever, their rise is generally about animal cunning, willingness to do things that others consider immoral or sheer 'right place at the right time' luck rather than genius. As to the Haunebu itself and Die Glocke etc. Absolute nonsense in the real world. Just a fantasy because we want to believe that there are interesting secrets to think about in order to relieve the boredom of daily life. I must admit that I was interested in the Haunebu myself but simply as a basis for creating my own model flying saucer. This doesn't mean of course that I am certain flying saucers exist but, rather I have an open mind and wonder, if, should flying saucers be a real thing, just how would they operate and why would that shape be preferable.
Tzulscha
Let's just hope nobody notices the Takom kit of the 'Ratte' or any of the Luft '46 kits out there! Heavens to Betsy! Think what the sight of all that high tech German stuff might make people think! Oh, for the Haunebu, just get the licensing from the "Iron Sky" movie.
upnorth
A lot of fuss to go to for a "flying saucer" that didn't appear in the public mind until 1952 from the imagination and tinkering of a Polish born American citizen, George Adamski (1891-1965).

Vince1159
Why don't they just turn it into something from the Sci-Fi movies from the 50s,might need a bit of adapting but there's plenty to choose from (The Day the Earth Stood Still springs to mind).....I love those old B movies...... Beardie
Well it does already bear a striking resemblance to the Adamski flying saucer which, I believe, can be found in kit form and that would take it away from any 'glorifying the Nazis' connotations.
