Type: Hawker Hurricane Mk.I

Paints and colours used: AK Black Primer & Microfiller; MRP-111 Cockpit Grey-Green; Tamiya Paints XF-1 Flat Black, XF-2 Flat White, XF-52 Flat Earth, XF-81 Dark Green (RAF); Vallejo Metal Colour 77.703 Dark Aluminium; Abteilung Oils;  Tamiya Weathering Powders

Other info: This was built for the #RAF100inscale group build ran on facebook at British Aviation In Scale, the full build can be see here on the forum

Overall this was a very enjoyable build, still far from perfect there are some very apparent mistakes but I’m pretty happy with the result. I would highly recommend this kit, there are some known issues surrounding fit of the wings and the fuselage and also the thick trailing edge and the fabric effect behind the gun gun access panels which should be metallic. But in the scale I think this is the best Hurricane you can buy.

Here are the final reveal photos:

Lovely build. Are these AML masks made from vinyl or the yellow tape ?

Hi mate, they are vinyl and if you are careful and lift them off your model gently you could probably use them more than once.

Very nice Hurricane Neal, what technique did you use to get the panel lines to stand out?

Hi Colin, I used an oil pin wash made from a mix of Smoke and Dark Rust from Abteilung thinned quite a lot with Turps substitute.

Awesome result.  The pilot looks exceptionally good.  How did you find the decals?   I find the newer Airfix decals tend to silver, but likely down to me.

Hi mate, I did have a bit of silvering on the serial numbers just below the tailplanes and also underneath on the black wing. Other than that no problems to report.

There’s something rather special about these pre Munich Crisis aircraft with large A1 roundels and your Hurricane fits this period perfectly. Looks like you tackled the thick wing trailing edge well,  did you do anything different here to achieve this?

Cheers and well modelled.. Dave

To be hones I did not do anything with the trailing edge, although it would not take much to pass a sanding stick over it during the build process to thin it down a bit, probably best done from under the wing to preserve the ribbed fabric effect that is on the top.

Great looking model! Why are the wingtip lights painted in camo though?

Well spotted I’ll amend that tomorrow when I am off. Thank you.
