longshanks
I can hear you groaning but here comes another sailing fishing boat …….. Falmouth working (Oyster) boats, Gaff rigged long keel boats with mainly internal movable ballast. As well as general fishing these were used to dredge the oyster beds in the upper reaches of Carrick Roads. The bye laws to this day prohibit the use of engines for this task and the boats are still used today. The fleet has seen the ingress of glass fibre copies which has ensured a healthy racing class. https://www.falmouth.co.uk/on-the-water/the-falmouth-working-boats/ Plug made as before Setting up to form one side of the mould One side laid up Mould made # and we now have a glass fibre hull to play with ….. Thanks for looking in Kev Edited June 17, 2018 by longshanks 10

beefy66
What are your main materials used on this method of making up the hull. beefy
longshanks
Hi Keith Sorry I didn't take pics of the making of the plug but it's done exactly the same as the Mounts Bay Fishing Lugger https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235030173-mounts-bay-fishing-lugger-and-wreck/ The again is the same Halfords glass fibre resin and tissue. Darby
That be 'ansome. Sea shanty festival this coming weekend in Falmouth. May be some topic matter there. I won't be there myself as the Dartmoor trout have been sadly neglected by myself of late so playing safe and staying this side of the Tamar.

Hewy
Looks like you've got this fibre glass mold making nailed, nice little production line you've got yourself there kev, liking it and taking down the particulars. Glynn
longshanks
First step fix support for deck Template for deck. Lay hull onto card and draw around the outside, cut out and fettle in one side first Having got one side snug we have an overhang which we can mark Template fits, mark out plastic card Need to mark out cockpit as you will see from the plan view above the side decks are curved to match sides. So I made a jig to mark a constant line 3mm in Deck laid in place, visible beneath are the ribs I've started on. As seen above there is a grating in the bottom of the boat so I've not taken the ribs to the bottom Thanks for looking in Kev
Dads203
Again an awesome display of building, the thumb in one of your photos really adds scale to the size of what your are constructing. Hope the holibobs are going well mate

longshanks
Not happy with the way the ribs were going so they all came out ... They were not perpendicular to waterline, not parallel etc etc. The ribs are 0.5 x 0.75mm Used spacers top and bottom, doesn't look tidy but will all cover up Working on template for bottom boards and with deck loosely in place Thanks for stopping by Kev

longshanks
Well the ribs completed and the grating made With fiddle bits like the grating I draw/CA bits to paper, the boards are 1.5 x .25mm. When all completed flip it over and sand off the paper and in situ and with the deck in place I think it's starting to look like a boat .... stevehnz
That is looking magic Kev. I might have missed a few "reactions" along the way, it's so easy to get swept along with the beauty of what you're creating. Steve.
