I am about to start the above model. For the main sand colour, the instructions state Vallejo 71.028 which is Sand Yellow,I have ordered this colour, but is it the correct one? Cannot find any equivalents, but then most of the equivalent charts are not correct anyway. I have found that out with other models. All the references to the colour I can find just say main body is Sand Yellow, no numbers given. The Vallejo one does look quite close, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks

Martin,

Most (all?) modern US vehicles are painted in Chemical Agent Resistant Coating (CARC) paints that conform to Federal Standard colours. So what? The base colour should be “CARC sand” or “US armor [sic] sand”. I use SMS paints (CARC sand, CARC green, CARC Brown) for US colours.

The color that best match modern US vehicles is FS33531. Best match for this color are:

Testors Model Master Sand FS33531
Mr Color H313 Yellow FS33531 (The aqueous version match better that the lacquer one)

You can also use Vallejo Model Air Sand which is also a very close match. This link will probably answer all your questions:
