Bonhoff Posted June 8, 2018 Share Posted June 8, 2018 Hi All, Another of the kits from my BoB Airfield set - First released in 1971 - The refuelling set must have graced many a modelmaker's diorama's or been converted for use on someone's model railway over the years (My dad for one...) I understand that strictly speaking the Bedford QL is more suitable in this guise for 1950's airfields - Please correct me if I'm wrong but in the meantime I'll start with the AEC Matador Tanker. Here's the parts - Mould seams and flash await attention. Lunch hour produced this... And now we're here... Now need to work out what to do about the non existant glazing. Primed and then a couple of coats of Gunze "Dark Earth" Then it was time to paint the driver. He'll do. And here he is in place in the freshly glazed cab. One problem I've just discovered is that the radiator has gone AWOL Wheels on - Not far from the finish line with this one now. Once I've sorted a radiator... Bonhoff Posted October 8, 2018 Author Share Posted October 8, 2018 Bizarrely - Although the Matador has a steering wheel and driver, the Bedford has neither. I found another driver in my spares box from, presumably, my dad's build of the AEC back in the early '70s but there's no way he's going to fit in the smaller QL cab so I guess this one will have to be parked. I bodged together a steering wheel/column to at least fill the space... The top of the tank was then masked out and treated to a couple of coats of Rover Inca Yellow from a spray can. And then on to the Matador - I needed a new radiator after the old one went missing. Thinking about the re-release of the Matador and 5.5" gun set, I popped down to the LHS near my workplace to see if they had one. Sort of... The shop has a box full of bits and bobs and I found this - An already constructed Matador sans gun for a couple of quid. Result! I can at least use this as a template to scratch another radiator. Bonhoff Posted October 15, 2018 Author Share Posted October 15, 2018 So - The models made it into the gallery (Just!) but not wanting to irritate Mrs.B further by staying up to complete the build logs I'll get them up to date now. Was "Volunteered" to assist my father with the running of a 009 layout over the final weekend of the GB which at least gave me modelling time without any guilt during downtime on the layout. Painted the AEC radiator at home on the Friday night which meant that all that was needed was to apply the decals over the weekend. Dad had other ideas - He'd decided to borrow the AEC So it was a case of getting on with the QL - I brush painted the RAF Blue on to the tank, fortunately, Humbrol 96 actually behaved itself and laid down with a half decent finish (IE - Not at all gritty as I find many of their acrylics) - The QL then needed the steering column inserting, lights and crash bar, cab roof gluing on (This needed some trimming of the locating tabs as the glazing interfered) exhaust adding and the main components all attaching to the chassis. Back home - I started on the decals and then realised at 23.10 that time was now against me so decided that they were complete... Good fun - Thanks for visiting.
