No worries Beppe,.. glad that they were of use!

Right,.... I`ve got the decals onto this one now,......... I found and ended up using the Aeromaster decals as they had the stencil styled code letters commonly used by this unit and the serial looked more authentic too,..... however the shark mouth was too short and would not fit around the Vokes filter,..... so I used the Superscale one which promptly broke up into little pieces upon application from the paper!! I will touch it up later with paint.

Here is the model;

Yes the 2nd cannon barrel has snapped off too,..... which is why I hardly ever fit them until after the painting and decalling is finished,..... so it is time to search for them both! Oh yeah,.... the rudder snapped off too,.....I`ll re fix it again later.

Cheers

Cheers Fellas and I hope that your Superscale sheet behaves itself FalkeEins,...... might be worth applying some decal preserver on it before using them?

Well I`ve added some matt varnish and a watercolour wash followed by some exhaust sating from MiG pigment powders and some silver paint chipping. The rudder is re fixed and I think that I have correct a set of cannons lined up to be used. I also added a painted out roundel to the upper right wing and fin slashes using slightly different shades of paint;

I’ve taken my eye off these whilst keeping up to pace with your Malta Hurricanes - wow, how good do these two US Spiits look. I’ve got to say, that the Spitfire is certainly one aircraft that I never tire of seeing built, especially when they look as good as these.

I’m running out of superlatives Tony!!

Cheers.. Dave

Thanks Patrice,...... we had a collapse at home last night and this and the SAAF Spitfire were flattened!!!

Hi Tony

 That is a terrible news 😭... I hope you will manage to repair them or at least salvage some parts for another build ...

Thanks Fella`s,...... well I removed the mess that was on top of them and appear to have got away quite lightly,...... I`ve found most of the parts and they should be repairable,...... it could have been much worse and I was expecting it to be so,......but still not good!

Well I`ve fixed the two broken models,..... apart from a missing rear view mirror on one you would never know!

Also I have finished the other Special Hobby Spitfire in 451 Sqn RAAF markings;

Thanks everybody!

Great spitfire, is it painted EDSG and dark green or EDSG and dark slate grey ?

Many of the RAF Commonwealth aircraft that were repainted in Temperate Sea Scheme in North Africa wore colours which were `stronger' than the prescribed colours,...... probably because they were `locally manufactured' with account taken for the fact that the UK produced colours faded very quickly under UV light,...or because US paints such as Olive Drab and Neutral Grey were used. I have tried to replicate this,..... the Dark Slate Grey is from Polly Scale in America which is a very greenish shade of the colour,....... hence why I used it in this case. When photographing this particular `modified' scheme on models it is quite hard to reproduce it well as it change markedly in different lighting conditions,.... plus the background colour also affects it too,...... especially blue or white!

Hiya Folks,

                 No more progress on the USAAF `Shark Mouth' yet,..... but I`ve got the cannons and undercarriage on the Aussie 451 Sqn Spit;

The paint on this one is literally layered on,..... so I have been lightly sanding it and buffing it to try and make it look respectable!!

Hiya Joseph,,...... the pilot was ex 3 Sqn RAAF and he added the small `CV' codes as a personal marking, so they were not sqn zaps as such.

I wouldn`t say that sqn zaps were common in WW2.

Cheers,

           Tony

I would
