J35F/J Draken - Hasegawa 1/48

Recommended Posts

Very cool. It's looking great.

Did the missiles come separately? My kit just had the tanks.

It seems a real bonus to have another of the same kit being built. I am really looking forward to seeing yours in its scheme. :)

Thanks Ham Hands! :)

A friend of mine had all the Hasegawa weapons and crew sets, but didn't need them, so I made some trading with him.

I took 2 AIM-4D from one of those sets, that I just painted white. Hase is a bit cheap when it comes to weapons!

Yes, it's always nice to see other builds of the same kit. To see how others have done.

I hope it'll turn out as good as my intentions, and hopefully my airbrush behaves good.

Yeah, a bit of luck there. We both got what we wanted, so win-win! :)

The 2nd take on the tanks and some other parts, turned out a lot better.

The RB28's got a cote of white.

Added a yellow stripe and black nose.

I should have checked the panel lines on the tanks, before painting, but did a few takes with the scriber.

Will sort that with some weathering later! :)

A little detail paint.

Last year I ordered the 3 colors I needed from FV-colours, which are supposed to be good match with the real colors.

As usual I started shaking the bottle, but couldn't hear much, so I opened it, and the color is thick as Citadel colors.

Is it supposed to be like that? Perhaps I should have ordered MRP instead.

You're doing a great job. Really nice.

I too had to re-scribe the tanks. Yours look great. :)

It's very nice to see the missiles. I'm looking forward to seeing them on your model. :)

Thank you! :)

After diluting the color quite a lot, I was able to lay down a cote or two, on the underside.

It didn't behave quite as I wanted, but I think one more layer will sort that out.

Then I can start masking for the metal paint onn the belly. Will try to mask and paint different shades of gray and black, before I start painting alu.

Thanks! :)

I put on another layer of grey.

And then I destroyed it by trying to post shade.

Thinking of laying a thin layer of grey on top of it, without taking away too much of the lighter tone.

Or perhaps it's enough to just make a wash.

Thanks Ham Hands! :)

I hope so. Thinking of using oil colors to make "rain" streaks. Going for a worn look, if I can pull it off the way I intended.

I put on one more thin layer of grey.

Quite happy how that turned out, so time for some masking.

First I did a few splashes of grey, and then masked and painted dark panzer grey.

On with some more tape and some black.

Looks wierd, with the tape off.

Lastly I painted a thin layer of aluminium, or actually several cotes, until I was satisfied.

Off with the tape! :)

It turned out way better than I've hoped, and the nuances are a bit more evident than what can be seen in the pics.

Next I'll turn to the 2 topside camo colors. Hoping I can do them justice! :)

Thanks André and Simon! :)

Yeah, it took quite a toll on the tape! :)

Will need more for the topside, and some blue tak rolls too, I guess.

  • 2 weeks later...

Masked in preparation for the topside paint.

41514230040_c102c92103_b.jpg

After that I ran out of tape, at least that brand. Have to get some new.

Started painting the green color, which took a total of 3 full (small) cups in the airbrush.

Thinking of how to proceed. Either lay a lighter post shade on the green, and then mask for the blue, or mask and do the blue, and do a post shade with white or light gray on both.

Trying to achieve somthing like what I've done on the underside.

I hope I didn't destroy it now then! :)

Perhaps I'll add a thin cote of the base color, before masking for the blue.
