RAF Phantom F-4J(UK)

Recommended Posts

In true RAF fashion I am turning up late for this one. Hopefully I'll be able to finish it on time!

The kit I'll be building is the Hasegawa 1/48 RAF Phatom F-4J(UK). I picked it up for a bargain price at a recent show. How no one else had snapped it up before me I will never quite know.

As you can see I am supplementing the kit with some AM decals and PE. The kit decals are a bit tired looking and the deserves better. This will be my first Hasegawa build and I am looking forward to getting stuck in. As I mentioned before I will hopefully finish on time however my bench time has been pretty limited lately. Wish me luck.

The fuselage halves are together and the cockpit is in. The cockpit requires a bit more work, there is some PE still to add and a bit of tidying uo needed but that will all wait until the end. I have stuck a good bit of weight in just in front of the front cockpit, more can be added to the nose if needed.

I am still considering replacing the seats with some aftermarket. The kit ones aren't too bad and there are a couple of figures which look nice. However I'm thinking I will display it with no crew and an open canopy.

Up next will be adding the nose and intakes, then cleaning up all the joins and seams.

Progress is slow. I doubt I'll make the deadline but at least I am having fun.

I splashed out on some resin seats which come with PE belts. The kit parts are not too bad but I am planning on displaying this one with the canopies open, I think the extra detail here will really look the part.

The nose is on and the seams have been cleaned up. A bit of rescribing is in order, and there are still parts to be added before this one is anywhere near priming.
