CliffB
Evening all, my entry will be this butcher bird, from the late 1970s. I got this kit a few months ago as an unwanted part of a 'bargain bundle' on eBay. Although the plastic is copyright marked 1977, the box says 1979. The handwritten notes on the box top are from a previous owner and I suppose provide some provenance! The parts are still in their original poly bag, but unfortunately the transfers have yellowed badly. I'll therefore be using aftermarket decals (for a Yugoslav F-8, captured from the Germans). Cheers Cliff

CliffB
Thanks Ratch - that's great info. To be honest, this is not a kit that I remember from my youth as by 1978 I'd moved on to other, full size distractions. So it's nice to have a chance to catch up, particularly as this will be my first ever Fw.190 build. I guess this might come in handy (from 1975).

Rabbit Leader
I believe there was something like 25-30 of these Airfix manuals Mike. I’m sure if you do a google search (or ask @Ratch) you’ll get a full list somehow. Cheers.. Dave 2
malpaso
I have the earlier boxing of this, it was one of my options (not taken yet) for the GB. I was surprised to see Hakenkreuzer on the decal sheet and box though! Cheers Will

(I had a quick look on ebay and saw a few of these so no doubt will be 'investing' shortly). Btw, I was having trouble recently getting the Airfix Tribute Forum from my PC which was blocking access to 'Tapatalk', although I can get to it from my phone - too small a screen to read properly. Have you any hints on the best way to access? - I need that support info to support this GB! Thanks. It was Will's reference to the swastika that threw me, but I see now that (in addition to the falling bomb), the earlier box art for the A/F does indeed have a swastika on the tail. My mistake! Lawzer
since I'm rapidly running out of display space I may need to move to 1/72... And if I *have* to do that old Airfix (ok and some other 70's icons) will be the way to go. Looking forward to see how this goes!

It'll be a couple of weeks before I start this one (I must get some of my other GB builds finished first ), but an initial fondle of the bits suggests a nice clean moulding, with good fit and delicate raised panel lines. CliffB
I've been keenly watching as the rest of you get stuck into your Airfix builds and now that I've finally starting mine, I have to say that I'm feeling decidely short-changed. Where is all the flash, where are the mis-shapen parts and where are all the rivets? True, the cockpit has nothing in way of interior detail (apart from a seat and a pilot figure), but that's no great loss and at least a token something is lurking in the wheel well. And how's this for fit? It's interesting to see how far Airfix came in those first 25 years and some would argue that the fine raised panel lines from 1977, are actually preferable to the trenches of today. Cheers Cliff

Rabbit Leader
Looking very smart there Cliff and I do think that this mid 70’s era was probably the pinnacle of Classic Airfix kit mould quality. Cheers.. Dave. 2
CliffB
Time for an update as I'm getting close to paint. The aircraft that I am representing originally belonged to I/SG2 and was captured by Yugoslav partisans when they overran an airfield near Kovon at the end of 1944. It was an F-8 (W.nr. 930838), but reportedly had an "old canopy hood unusually for this type". I've therefore used the canopy provided by Airfix for the kit's A-8 option. Following capture, the aircraft's markings were over-painted with Yugoslav ones and its number changed from '43' to '11'. The Yugoslav used the aircraft for liaison purposes until 1946, when it was repainted as a German machine and became a museum piece. As I'll have to model the aircraft with an empty bomb cradle, I've added a little extra detail in lieu of Airfix's bombs. Cheers Cliff
CliffB
I don't know why my build is taking so long. My three year old grandaughter Chloe, has just produced this one in under an hour (It's a Frog kit actually, but don't tell anyone).
