BIG X
I've now primed up the spans... Every single picture I have looked at on the internet shows nothing but planks as the base... ...who's that cheeky chappy - walking into Germany like he owns the place... However - I like the look of the 'chequer plate' metal sheets - so I am going to leave them as they are. The primer has worked well on this occasion and everything has cured off really quickly. I think the exposed RSJ's will add a nice touch and I'll do them in a dark burnt metal for contrast... ...but these walkways are definitely missing something
Bonhoff
Rope handrail?
BIG X
So - my little scoot over to Widnes... I looked at a load more bridge pictures and caved into the taunting from @GREG DESTEC and @Pete in Lincs... Though my box top doesn't show them... ...these pictures do... So I've bought these... 5 to a sprue - 4 sprues per pack - 5 packs bought... I think I'll need about 50 - but I've bought a 100 - as they look VERY fragile.

badger
And what started off as a nice simple build just got much more 'Big X'! Really looking forward to seeing the handrails go on as think it will lift the kit immeasurably and add a lot more visual interest. Of course you now need some foot traffic to go over it! badger
Being an airfix gb these would fit the bill nicely as there's a couple of walking poses. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Airfix-A01763-British-Infantry-Northern/dp/B003K16WAS

BIG X
I have sprayed the chequer plate in SCC15 and started putting the holes in for the hand rails - or 'stanchions' as I now know they should be called... 👨🎓

Think the first figure would be good at the end of the bridge beckoning the others to hurry up.

BIG X
Look what I just found... I had both of these - I had completely forgot they existed and certainly didn't remember they were Airfix. HAPPY HAPPY DAYS
Lawzer
imagine walking around with (especially the slr!) one of those now!! the blue lights would soon be flashing round the big x house 3
BIG X
Looking at them you could easily paint them up with some wood tones and Alclad metallics. I seem to remember the bayonet was a bit 'bendy' though - it would probably need replacing with a bit of 'after market' from the cutlery drawer
Silver Fox
I had both at one time or another. The SLR barrel always broke where it left the hand grip a but the Thompson was always my favourite.
BIG X
...I've just got home from work and before 'tea' - or 'dinner' if your posh.... I've masked up the SCC15 - In preparation for some woody tones... a ..whilst SWMBO is conjuring up another X family classic - I'm off to splash the browns... 2
Pete in Lincs
I had the FN rifle. Yes, the barrel broke off. But I still have some bullets! 1
Kallisti
Great idea - I used this kit in my Thunderbird 2 launch diorama a few years back: Turning it upside dwon needed to build up the 'ramp" to be even so this was done using some balsa wood and plastic trip to create the edges Your build has given me an idea for this GB concerning some other kits I have in the stash...
BIG X
I had seen that on the forum - really inventive use of the parts and probably a lot truer to real life than mine will be - 2
BIG X
OK - Southern Fired Chicken / salad / crinkle chips - the food of the gods... ...BTW - here is the result of my wood painting... It's almost dry already - so I'm off to peel away the masking tape - back shortly - fingers crossed 🤞
BIG X
I thought I'd try another pic - but the woody tones aren't showing too well... it does look OK - honestly...
BIG X
With all the finesse of a waxed supermodels leg - I have whipped the masking off... ...time for a quick coat of gloss before bed - then it's on with the 'fake tan' - otherwise known as Flory Washes

badger
Looking really good. Good candidate for lots of weathering fun. At this rate you'll have this finished by the weekend! All the best Ben

With a whopping parts count of 13 - one of which I'm not using even I shouldn't take too long. Having said that - we are on day 3 and I'm already on page 3 of the thread. Also - the only things I've actually stuck together are the only things that shouldn't be stuck together ie the side spans - but I do like the look of them now 3
