A huge thank you for the organisers and everyone who took part in the Airfix Golden Years GB. This GB has been a wonderful experience and a lot of fun.

Thanks for looking,

British Airways Vickers Vanguard.

Finally I have come to the end of my builds and here is my final entry I am a bit disappointed with the cockpit window as I pushed it in a tad far so I couldn't get a good paint job on it.

But I am pleased with the final result.45272399351_95bd13466c_c.jpg45272399411_0f10da0649_c.jpg45272399481_ddafa175f9_c.jpg45272399511_93cf511745_c.jpg45272399531_ab47eb4acd_c.jpg

I finished my Bf109e.  I had a few issues mainly with painting, or rather the mottling and weathering.  The kit itself was great, it's  only problem was vague wing fit so I ended up resetting them to get better dihedral.

I like this view from no.8's wingman or a lucky Tomahawk about to get a bead in?

The markings are the second option from the kit and went on really nicely.  It's been fun building this kit and seeing the variety others have worked on for the GB.

I'll aim to replace these photos when I can get decent lighting on Sunday.

Well the sun was out this afternoon, and I didn't go to London as expected, so had time to take the 109 out in the sun (the first time as all build and paint has been in the evenings).  The colours look a lot more desert appropriate in natural light.  I'm still slightly thinking I actually prefer my models in the glossy modern warbird finish after Klear over transfers!

Cheers

Will

Fiat G.50 bis. Lovely little kit and an attempt at a fairly complicated camo scheme.

Enjoyed the build and the support along the way from the classic BM Airfix Modellers.

Off for a break now...

My 1/144 BEA Airtours Boeing 707:

Raised detail removed from fuselage and upper wings, with the latter re-scribed to give a better representation of the control surfaces.

Engines improved (a bit!) by scraping out the inside of the intakes and inserting a length of plastic tube.

Build thread is here

Afternoon all,

The sun made a re-appearance around our way this morning so I managed to get some shots of the Mossie:

So here is my Airfix 1977 (1990 boxing) De Havilland Mosquito FB. Mk.VI built as Mosquito FB.6 PZ471 YH F of No. 21 Squadron based at Gutersloh, Germany circa 1947.

I have removed the port outer engine panel and scratched a replacement panel (for those that informed me that all the panels were removed for maintenance just pretend that that's the last one to be replaced but the 'erks have gone for a tea break.) I have used a Merlin engine nicked from a 1/48 Mustang in the stash and made the visible engine bearer/frame from plastic rod. I have removed the moulded crew access door and scratched a replacement in the open position as well as the crew access ladder.

The Machine gun, cannon and Pitot tube are brass aftermarket details. For the decals I used the very good Barracuda airframe stencil set, the rest are all my own home print efforts.

The Trolley Accumulator was scratched, apart from the wheels which I had 3D printed.

Once again it's been  fantastic to be a part of such a well subscribed GB and I tip my hat to @Ventora3300, @Lawzer and @Rabbit Leader for all the encouragement and organising throughout the GB. I feel that the sheer number and diversity of builds evident in the gallery suitably reflect the name and history of Airfix and what that means to many, many modellers.

Cheer, Mark.

And here's my effort, Airfix's HS-129 B2 in Eastern Front markings, 1943. The build thread is here if you're interested.

Thanks to Ventora3300, Lawzer and Rabbit Leader for leading the GB, well done on all the great builds and here's to the next one!

Cheers,

Dermot

Hi All

Here is my 1960's F27-100 Friendship

                             c/n 1015 EI-AKA  AER LINGUS

This Aircraft passed to NAC/Air New Zealand as ZK-NAH then Air Cruising VH-NLS and finally The Fokker Heritage Flight PH-FHF

The kit went together quite well not requiring a great deal of filling . The decals fought all the way .

Thanks to our hosts and all who joined in for a great GB .

Martin H
