Old Viper Tester
C-135C, USAF s/n 61-2669, of the 4950th Test Wing Detachment 1, Andrews AFB. These images taken at Edwards AFB in January 1982. The aircraft was known as Speckled Trout, accomplishing test missions for advanced communications and navigation systems. It was also the primary transport for the Chief of Staff of the USAF. The Trout often executed testing while performing VIP transport flights. Highly polished fuselage sides and fan sections of the engine nacelles. Infra-Red countermeasures units on each of the engine pylons... It's not obvious in the images above but the serial presentation on the tail and the United States Air Force legend on the fuselage are in medium blue with black shadowing... Thanks for looking, Sven Edited May 23, 2018 by Old Viper Tester 11

RidgeRunner
Nice Sven. I recall another - 57-2589? - being very similar? Martin

Martin, 57-2589 was a KC-135E and the back-up for Trout 99. '589 was referred to as Casey 01 and was once the VIP transport for CINCSAC. It eventually replaced Trout 99 when 99 was retired in 2006. '589 was eventually replaced by a KC-135R, 63-7980. Sven

Red Dot
I've seen pictures of these before but always wondered why it's called a speckled trout? Andy

I don't remember all the details, and there's probably a Google answer somewhere. I was told it had to do with someone who was there when the detachment at Andrews was formed, last name Trout, and that person having a lot of freckles. Stranger than truth? Sven Sven You are on the right lines. The Speckled Trout programe was named while the test aircraft were based at Andrews but under the control of the Wright Patterson Flight Dynamics Laboratory. The original 'Speckled Trout' a/c 55-3126, gained the nickname in honour of Faye Trout, the civilian program monitor at the laboratory who apparently had a lot of freckles! Great picture by the way.
