AW (Gloster) Meteor NF.14, WS810/B, No. 264 Sqn , RAF Linton-on-Ouse, 1957

Recommended Posts

No. 264 squadron flew Meteor night fighters from 1951 when it replaced its ageing Mosquitos with NF.11s, subsequently upgrading to the NF.14 in October 1954. The squadron flew these from Linton-on-Ouse until renumbering as 33 squadron on 30th September 1957 and moving further north to Leeming.

The NF.14 had the most powerful engines of all the Meteor night fighters and continued in service until 1961. However, by the mid-50s it was fast becoming obsolete and regularly out-performed by Canberras during exercises. Despite this it was generally popular with its crews and just over 100 were built.

WS810 was delivered to the RAF in March 1953, and became one of the last operational Meteor NF.14s after transferring to 60 sqn following 264's disbandment.

:clap2: Great work again LR ...I really need to get a meteor for my collection.

Thanks!

Meteors are great as there are so many options for markings and versions. I've got two more NFs and two F.8s in the stash.

That is an inspirational build of a Matchbox classic Lord Riot, you have done justice to my favourite Mark of Meteor.

Thanks for the likes and comments guys. It's an old kit that needed quite a lot of filler, but definitely worth the effort in my opinion.

Wish I could find one in 1/48!

Aeroclub did a mixed media NF.14 in 1/48--vacuform airframe & canopy, injection molded cowlings and empennage, and white metal LG & cockpit, IIRC.

Happy hunting!

Very nice model. I finished an NF12 last year of a Church Fenton based aircraft. The kit has a real appetite for filler and the fit is a bit iffy in places and I think you have done a really good job on what has always been an interesting and important aircraft represented by a mediocre kit.

Thanks guys! It did use a lot of filler!

Would be nice if Airfix did a Meteor NF kit, maybe one day.

Thanks Pat! Indeed it is, with aftermarket decals. And the Meteor F.8 is the Xtrakit one.
