War is hell isn't it.

Interesting to see a vintage image of Britmodellers first group build. Which one is Mike?

I guess scale modelling was very important during the war.

I saw a documentary about the Amiens prison raid by Mosquitos and they had a full scale model to work from during briefings.

Wow, this is a bit of a coincidence! Only yesterday my father in law told me his Dad made model aircraft during the war which were used for recognition training. He told me he can remember sanding and painting them.

I saw some of those aircraft recognition models at the warhawk museum recently.

They were all painted black as I guess they would look against the sky.

I'll ask him if he remembers if they were black. I wonder if there's any photo's online? Off to look. 👍

The Central Interpretation Unit (combined Allied photo reconnaissance interpretation unit, based at RAF Medmenhan) had a very large model making division, making 3D models for operations from the latest photos.

One that comes to mind on this day, the models of the three main dams for tonights targets . . . . .

Google just found me this interesting article:

Allied Military Model Making during World War II

And despite being on Pinterest, this collection is interesting:
