LotusArenco
I should have probably put this in the ‘tools and tips’ area of the forum, but felt it of more of use to the Sci-Fi modellers. Handy tip for detailing up Sci-Fi kits, especially for various nozzles/exhausts/verniers. Picked up this tip from watching Japanese modellers on Youtube. IC DIP/DIL Socket connectors. You need the ones with the round pins, and with a bit of careful cutting, you’re left with these little nozzle type things. Drill a hole in the plastic and just pop in, no need to even paint them if you don’t want, as they have a nice copper/gold inside surrounded with silver. Ideal for the smaller nozzles, or perhaps in groups of 3 inside a larger nozzle. Next up is a tip of my own devising, from hunting through Amazon for greeblies with a ‘modellers eye’. Similar to above, but using cable ‘ferrules’. Perfect for modelling use as they are already nozzle like in appearance. Easily cut down to size if needed as the metal is very thin. Again, just drill a hole the right size and pop in. Just pop onto Amazon or Ebay and type in Ferrules or IC connectors. Any other ‘found bits’ to share? Black Knight
Good ideas. I can see these in use on Car builds too, as carb intakes etcetera on customs
Pete in Lincs
I use the metal end from ballpoint pens. They're already cone shaped and..... Discarded ones are free!
rockpopandchips
You can get the ferrules in lot of sizes two, could used for all sorts. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uninsulated-Cord-End-Bootlace-Ferrules-Cable-Crimps-Terminal-All-Sizes-and-Qty/192106579408?hash=item2cba71c5d0:m:mzWBnC0xh2TKbUAzkJU-7JQ
LotusArenco
Couple more for ya. Fairly obvious, but good old guitar strings. Nice and easy to get hold of and come in handy for power cables and whatnot. Perl wire. Similar to guitar strings, but larger sizes available. There’s also French wire or ‘Gimp’ wire (Oi! no laughing at the back!) used in jewellery making. Mart
Pete in Lincs
Florists wire (ask at your local independent florists) A small bunch should cost you about 50p & last ages. It's what they use to hold together wreaths etc. It's malleable, cut's easily and has lots of uses.
Pete in Lincs
I think someone else has mentioned this on BM but not on this thread. I ordered a metal earth AT-ST from Amazon warehouse deals at about 1/3 off. It arrived today. Very small and intricate, but I think I'll just use the parts as greeblies on my future Sci Fi scratch builds, especially at this price! BTW, the warehouse deals are worth a look, Milliput for just over 2 pounds!
LotusArenco
More! Spectacle repair kits, again via Ebay or Amazon. About a fiver or so, for a thousand or so of these little blighters. The heads have diameters of 1, 2 and 2.5mm. Mart
mylo66
Hi LotusArenco. Think I recognise that model your working on. Bandai Gundam Ball? I posted a couple of pics of this model over on Unofficial Airfix forum using this same user name.

I’m faffing around with it on occasion, but waiting for some waterslide decals. Surface mount LED in the cockpit and a couple of 3mm LEDs in the side window things.
