Azgaron
Hi, It's been quite a while since I last posted a build here, but now I'm back with an Airfix Buccaneer in 48th. I started out with the kit cockpit, but decided to go with the Neomega cockpit instead, so I've ordered one. Meanwhile I turned my attention to other parts like the "belly" that had raised panel lines for some reason. The landing gears also needed some attention. As well as intakes and exhaust pipes. Wings and tailplane. And lots of other parts that could be worked with while waiting for the cockpit. More soon. Cheers, Håkan
71chally
Following with interest as I plan to do another some time soon. I plan (!!) on working with the kit parts as much as I can. Apart from the 'warpedness' of the fuselage it still looks pretty good for a 23 year old kit from a mainstream manufacturer. Anyway, enjoy!
Azgaron
Thank you James! First Bucc build ever, as this and the other 4 have been laying in my stash for quite some time. Yeah, it looks pretty nice, and the warpedness was one of the things that kept me from starting it. Håkan

Azgaron
Thanks Viper and Nikolay! 32nd scale would be nice too, but wasn't aware there was one. Not 24th either, until I stumbled on a build here. Slipper tanks and some load assembled. Realised later that all of it won't be used. Found a build here (seems to be quite a few), were the builder used seamless intakes, and I decided to do something simular (without the resin). The main gear wells could use some added detail. As can be seen in the pic I cut out the flaps too. Added some wires in the wells. A little mix of checking pics and gizmolgy! Håkan

Azgaron
Put some black primer on the inside of the jet pipes. Both intakes done and the former fans modified to fit into the jet pipes. Like this. The Neomega cockpit arriwed. The parts together with the kit parts. Hardly no difference! A little side step to the main gears. Following tip seen here (and elsewhere), I cut of the tabs for the wheels. Drilled holes. And glued the legs. I didn't realise my mistake until after I was done drilling. Hopefully it will hold even though the holes are a bit large on the legs. Just to clarify. I'm not a super fast builder, I'm just presenting my build in digestable chunks! Azgaron
Continuing. The cast wire on the gear is a bit confusing, as it looks like the one on the inside, but Airfix seems to imply it's the brake line. Instead of making it easy, I decided to cut the leg and switch sides with the lower part. Then I added some wire to both front and main gears. Quick jump back to the cockpit. I had some problems figuring where some parts should go, as the instructions isn't as clear as one could wish. Got great help from Massimo, and then I could start to pussle things together. Fixed a broken "ear" with some putty. Preparing for primer. Back soon with more pics. Håkan

Azgaron
Thanks for the tip Uncle! I assume that you mean the triangular shaped "things". I looked it up and it seems they're a bit sloped towards the opening in the rear end. I'll see what I can do. Håkan
Azgaron
I loaded the airbrush with AK's Extreme Metal black primer. Splashed some on the wheel bays. Some on front gear and the joystick. Cockpit parts and tires. Then the cockpit parts got some Hu140. and the wheel bays. Once dry, I switched to Hu127 and fine needle/nozzle. Got some paint on the seats. and on the cockpit parts. Then I started detail painting in the cockpit. and in the wheel bays. The seats got some more color and the tub got a wash and some weathering with Tamiyas make up sets. I find it quite fun painting the cockpit, even if it takes quite some time and had me running between my computer and the hobby room, as i lack a working printer! planehazza
This was my first ever model, when I was about 7. I painted my leg with enamel green paint and my parents stopped the hobby until I was a little older ha. My mum lever lets me forget haha. 71chally
Lovely work Hakan, coming along nicely. It has to be said that Neomega cockpit looks very good.

Azgaron
Thanks James and Yeoman! Yes the cockpit is very nice. The other parts to the cockpit also got some extra splashes of color, a wash and some dry brushing. and some more color on the seats. I did a bit of test fitting in the tub. The borrowed decal for the radar, turned out okey, I think. I stole the handles from the kit too. I used Gator to glue the walls, prior to fitting tub in the fuselage. After some test fitting, the walls came loose. Had to make some cutting to make the walls fit. Turns out I cut off a bit too much to fit the new coaming. Ejection handles painted. Fun but time consuming to work with the cockpit! Håkan
bar side
Loving this this - in the plans to do a bucc sometime. The one on the gate at Honnington looks a little sad these days. I am Taking note as you proceed. Excellent so far
Lord Riot
Wow. Incredible detail. These are the kind of builds that make me feel woefully inadequate at modelmaking!
Azgaron
Thanks bar side and Lord Riot! Test fit of cockpit and coaming, revealed some minor corrections was needed. Meanwhile I added some weight to the bottom half. Cockpit in place. I added a bit of plastic behind the top part of the rear wall in order to make it align better. Used the decals from the kit on the seats. There I realised why a friend recommended new decals instead of Airfix. With the cockpit in place, I could start joining the fuselage, a bit at the time. It worked fine until I came to the nose, which was a bit out of alignment. Some puttying and rescribing to do. Håkan

It looks like an upper half is slightly distorted upwards and the vertical gap will be gone when you glued it in the downward direction 😉 Edited May 7, 2018 by Nikolay Polyakov
Azgaron
Thanks Nikolay! This seems to be the problem most builders have when building this kit. The advice I've found is to work forward from the rear, but next build (whenever that happens) I think I'll try starting with the nose.
