Matchbox? Do 335 Pfeil 1/72

Recommended Posts

Hello Britmodellers!

Been a long time since I posted (built) anything but here we go...

It's the Matchbox Do 335 (cough cough).....it's the Frog 1974 Do 335 Nightfighter, picked up by Revell and reboxed/rebadged as Matchbox with new decals!!

All according to the timeline from a site I enjoy Scalemates.......worth a look I reckon    https://www.scalemates.com/

Anyway the kit was rough by current standards. Canopies definitely difficult in detail, thickness and fit.

Raised panel lines, decals like leather, antennae shocking, flame dampners weird, fit average etc etc etc but I had a great time and enjoyed the build!!!

I hope you like her...

Lookin' good! I always liked building Frog kits: they were almost always accurate in shape and dimension, although simplified; the plastic was easy to work with, and they did subjects you couldn't get from anybody else. Transparencies were usually the weakest part of their kits, but that's what vacuforms were for! You did the old Frog kit justice! Lindberg did the single-seat version in 1/72, but it was a pig! I think a lot of modelers used the Frog kit and converted it back to the single-seat version, as it was  a much better kit.

Great work. Mine had some shrunken canopies that didn't fit at all.

So did mine lol!

I had to sort of shape the fuselage inward where it joined the canopy and rework it a bit to make it look like they fitted.

Then I used a PVA glue a few times to sort of fill the joins and smooth it all out a bit more.

It's not perfect by any means but it looks a bit better than what I started with!

Thanks to all for the kind comments

A couple of things I should have mentioned

Lot's of weight required in the nose to prevent a tail sitter!

The swastika's on the tail are from an aftermarket sheet.....everything else is OOB

Paints used were Model Master RLM83, RLM81 Braun Violett and RLM76 for the underside.

Props are RLM70...... and those antennae are hard to get straight lol!!!

Congratulations!

You have made silk out of a pigs ear (is that the saying?)

Very well done kit especially if you consider it's age.

LOL thanks Paulo.

I think the correct phrase is "make a silk purse out of a sows ear" (a sow being an older female pig) and yes the meaning is to make something refined, beautiful or admirable out of something of poor value or poor materials.

Was originally used in the negative as in "You cannot make a silk purse out of a sows ear" ......

I am very glad you think I have managed to do it with this old Frog, Revell, Matchbox kit!

She's not perfect by any means but it looks interesting in the cabinet.

Now I have to get back to that P-40 that is on the shelf of doom!

Cheers
