If I want "furniture" on the turret- will that stick to the Mr Surfacer or better to attach now & Mr Surfacer around (thinking hooks, hand rails (think they can go on after) , vision ports etc)

I use surfacer all the time and glue objects to it. Granted i work mostly aircraft but have done armor in the past. I would use a micro drill where you plan to attach to. Also if you have any i would use C/A gel for the best adhesion possible.

thanks for that... slowly adding to the turret - pictures over the weekend....

fiddly progress on the engine deck (need to add a jack then it is done), commanders hatch and started the turret mounted machine gun... not quite accurate for the Russian standard but I am thinking a "manufactured under licence" Hungarian model (needs a lot more work of course)........

Nice work Rob coming together nicely now.

cheers Roger. I am glad I tried the machine gun, think it will make a good addition. I have also started on the external storage for the fenders - starting with the external fuel tanks and will also do piping for them. Then I need to do the fender supports, Slowly moving from the rear round to the front (which I may or may not reshape - think it still looks too WWII-esque)

further progress on the machine gun and also added smoke launchers on the turret. Not sure if I will do the same on the other side

Really enjoying this one Rob.......unusual and interesting to follow. Nice work on the MG and the upper hull.....

Simon.

thanks Simon...

just a quick update today - hope to get most of tomorrow afternoon to work on it... M/G will be mounted to the turret and also working on the external fuel tanks. Going to have piping from rear one to the one in front and then form the one in front in to the hull. These are going to be "cast" (mr Surfacer 500) tanks. Then its time to start working my way forward on the fenders to add more stowage and tools.

Turret nearing completion. Tried to replicate a canvas-type barrel cover and the IR light (including linkage to the barrel). Second set of smoke launchers on, hooks(?) added and aerial mount on the rear. Just need to complete the M/G mount and I think it is then done (may add a 2nd light infront of the commanders hatch)..

next update... turret is now complete (if I go further I risk overcrowding and not having room for some nice numbers and the texturing) - have reworked the mantlet a little to try to make it look more "moveable". External fuel tanks done and the mounting points fitted - they too will be textured (may be tomorrow). Fender brackets on so its time to look at where tools/storage can go. Have some spares for boxes but some will be scratchbuilt (oh and I guess at some point I need to look at the tracks!!!!!)

Cheers Roger. Am enjoying myself...

new found tool of choice - Mr Surfacer 500!!! Turret & Fuel tanks "cast" (nice to see them looking "unified"). Storage started. Going to take a break and tackle the tracks - well at least remove from sprue. 189 of the things!!!!

more small additions. Light on the front (not really happy with the "wiring") and a turret air ventilation system (made from a Crusader exhaust system I believe) - hey its a WHIF.

toying with the idea of rear fuel drums (typical soviet design) but not sure if I am getting too close to a straight copy of the T-54/55) - its just calling out for "something"

Hi Rob

That Mr Surfacer really does work for armour texture.  It does sort of resemble a T-5x with a different turret and

it's coming along well.  You sure have some scratch-building skills that sadly I lack.

That 189 track links is just a breeze compared to some of the Rye Field and Meng tracks with almost 1000 pieces. Should

be able to knock them off in a couple of hours....long hours,

Take care,

Lloyd

on the tracks. going to do both sides to over the front & rear wheels first then see if there is enough to fill in the top on both sides. if not, i will do skirts (think I could do something rusty and unfinished if I did so may do it anyway)

Roger, still a way away i am afraid... tracks should be done this afternoon so then i can see if i need to do skirts (or want to)... then its rear hull storage and then the front glacis needs some more work (not happy with the light wiring) and need to wire the smoke grenades

managed to get the tracks done (still my do skirts - at least mock them up to see what they look like) and spare tracks on the fender and on the rear. I need to add extra storage to the other side of the rear. Next attention is the glacis. The light is on but not overly happy, and I dont want to leave the front so "boring" (or simply add tracks) so need to have a look - one option is a patriotic slogan (have the words "Russkik Haza" or something like that to handwrite on the front)..

hope by this time next week there will be primer on it (going to do B&W shading again)

Hi Rob

One thing you could try on the glacis  is to add that flat piece of vertical armour or whatever it is that runs across just below the headlight.

Don't know if it's armour or a mud deflector or what it is but it's on T-54s and T-55s and adds more interest to the flat plain looking glacis.

Then there's usually two tow hooks below that on the glacis with maybe a length of chain between them. Then there's the 4 bars with all the bolts above the

armour cross bar.

Just some thoughts.........

BTW the tracks look good and they were long enough.

Looking forward to seeing the primer on this one Rob......

Interested on how you do the B&W. I have done the black so far only - like on the Zugkraftwagen. I think my next one I do I'm going for white, and really accentuate the modulation more than I have on both the SIG 33 and the Zug'. It helps I think in keeping it "bright" as such through the wash and dust stages.

As I said....interested on your method.

Simon.
