Britman
As some of you have already suggested , there is only one reason to go to Sproat Lake and that is to see the majestic Mars flying boats. One aircraft should have been on the water, but as you can see it had an engine issue. Back on the bus...... 12

72modeler
A magnificent flying boat that has given faithful service for so long; they will be missed from the skies, but at least they are being preserved. Thank you so much for sharing these remarkable photos. Mike
Sabrejet
Managed to tick this bucket list item in 2005: my wife almost ran into one in our hire boat as we were busy taking photos! Also did the tour round the base, where we met some great folks. Happy memories!

Paul J
Magnificent beasts! I got to see them during my long tour of BC back in 2004. Sadly there was no one about to take us on a tour. There was some kind of meeting going on. But I was pleased to get to see them at any rate. Both were on the water. There is an airfield nearby at Port Alberni that I never got the chance to visit. Did I miss anything good there? My next stop on our travels South to North on Vancouver Island was the collection at Comox. Then on to Port Hardy. dogsbody
Nice! Great photos. In May, 2011, the Mars was up here, helping to fight a large forest fire that was burning to the northeast of here. It was based at Gregoire Lake, about 30 km. from my house. I got out twice to get some photos. And a video: Chris 3
