WMPTE Land Rover

Recommended Posts

Ive had this planned for a while, saw an old pic of a Land Rover towing a bus in Bloxwich, I plan to do a few bus service ancillary vehicles,

I started with an old ESCI kit, and thought this would be fine but the real landy is a SWB, 88 inch and the kit is 109 so Ive chopped 20mm out of the middle! I have also changed the body to flat van sides covering the windows. Chassis is shortened also and the axles etc are in place

I have added the decals onto another order with my decal maker and they will be landing soon. The chassis will be black, with the bodywork in Tamiya XF8 blue I know this is the shade as Ive checked it against a preserved fleetline bus of the same era. Typically ive now found another shot showing the fleet numbers on the door!

Ive got 2 more days off and plan is tomorrow to get the blue on, so it has a few days to dry before I can decal it. Ill be taking it in the truck to decal and do some detail painting as i want it done before next weekend as its TRUCKFEST!!!!!!!!!

Painted the lower inside Green, and the roof white so they can dry and be masked tomorrow. The outside is now painted, and sanded and I hve since put the final grey primer on and its in the airing cupboard drying off. Chassis and wheels are black and Ive made a simple tow hitch for the back

Ive sorted some tools and bits to add in the back, along with a spare wheel maybe just for some detail and clutter that accumulates in these vehicles!

Couldn’t get the shed power to work today, so dig out a paint brush and it’s had 2 coats and a gloss varnish today, it will be packed in the cab with some paints and decals to go with me tomorrow

That's coming on really well. Modelling on the job, I thought I was the only one to model at work!.

Great work so far Rich. Unfortunately I must point out an error but keep it in mind for future reference as it's too late to deal with it now. On a swb Landy, as well as a shorter (88") chassis, the bodywork behind the rear axle is also shorter resulting in the bottom edge of the overhang lying at a steeper angle. Sorry!
