Mark4700
Not much work being done on this recently. Only managed to mask the canopy up ready for installation. As always I made my own mask using masking tape and a scalpel. I just can’t bring myself to spend on a specific masking pack for models, I’ve spent too long living in Yorkshire.

The canopy works with a masking tape are very common for modellers, but I think the masking solutions like a Maskol is a huge time-savers, isn’t it? Good work, Mark! Now the IP shroud looks very detailed 👍 Cheers! 🙂
Mark4700
Fuselage sealed and wings attached. Time for the truth serum, or undercoat. It amazes me how a model can look perfectly well filled and sanded, then an undercoat is applied and a further day or twos work is revealed 😨 This is mine after the undercoat. Now I have to say that for a kit of this age the results were superb. No massive amounts of extra filler or sanding needed here 😁 A bit of tidying around the front wheel bay and air intakes. Around the back of the canopy. Under the tail. All in in all very pleased so far.

VT Red Sox Fan
Mark--an awesome Jag and a great A-6--you got it going on man! 🙂 This build is coming together extremely well--will be watching from the other side of the pond!
Mark4700
I’ve had a first ever go at making the wing tip navigation lights. I cut a piece of clear sprue roughly to size, drilled a hole in it, filled the hole full of paint and then sanded it to the right size. It looks better than it does in the photo. Really pleased for a first attempt.
Mark4700
Another round of sanding of the problem areas and a second undercoat done. Looking better now.

Hook
Loks quite suitable! There are a lot of pictures of some pretty weathered US Navy birds out there. Cheers, Andre

Mark4700
At last made some progress on this build. I have been busy with an F14 that isn't subject of a WIP. I've managed to get a coat of paint over it, and also got rid of all the masking tape etc. All that's left now, at least paint wise is the black at the top of the nose at the bottom of the canopy screens. very pleased with how its gone so far. Here's a few pics of how it looks now.... Thanks for looking. Hope you like it so far.

billn53
That canopy looks exceptionally clear! Did you do anything special to it?

I always dip my canopies in Humbrol clear gloss varnish. This one does look particularly clear though. Edited January 22, 2019 by Mark4700
Mark4700
After a bit of a lay-off I’ve managed a bit of progress. The decals have been applied. For a kit that’s around 30 years old, the original decals were still usable, although I did use plenty of softener. The results are really pleasing. I’ve also applied a layer of gloss varnish to seal the decals. The ordinance is ready to be fitted. The only thing to do now is weathering. But how far should I go with it? Always a difficult decision as you can easily spoil a model at this stage.

Mark4700
After a longish break I’ve managed to finish it. Also had an F14 build at the same time though didn’t do a WIP for that. Ive posted a few photos below. I’ll take some for the RFI when the weathers nice again. Hope you like.
