Ju87 G/D tank buster Revell 1:72

Recommended Posts

This is an old kit and an awful lot of flash present.  General fit pretty bad and the fuselage needed a lot of filler and sanding.  Panel lines pretty poor and lack detail.

I have drilled out the cannons and made new steps, as originals too thick, they need painting as underside.  Engine detail progress pic.  Hairy stick used throughout.

Nice job on a rather old kit!  :clap2:

Can't have been a particularly fast aeroplane with those heavy cannon on the wings!

I speculate that air support for allied tanks was somewhat lacking at that time (just guessing though).

Hi Hairtriger,

You have managed a rather good Stuka, especially if you take the Revell kit into consideration...

Unfortunately, I somewhat believe that the engine lets the kit down, but that's just me.

I have the Ju 87 B/R from Revell (same vintage, etc.) and it has sat in its box for centuries, only partly built! It has the same rivet lines, etc.

I will finish it, but the engine shall remain firmly under its cowling!

Great work!!!

Thanks Jean,. Yes the engine isn't marvellous at this scale does make you think is it worth the effort.

I have to admit, I cursed this kit as the flash was appalling, as was the fit.

I believe it's an old Frog kit, but recently done a FW 109 152 HA (old 1970s Frog) and that far surpassed this in quality.

I definitely have built a Stuka 1.72. It had the S word on the decal sheet. I think mine may have been a matchbox kit? I painted in a green grey colour and was the first time I attempted free hand on the canopy. Did not go so well! This example here of 1.72 is fantastic, old kits are hard, and I’m very happy I don’t have to close the curtains for fear of its banshee scream dive.

Definitely NOT a re-pop of a FROG kit. The first Ju87 kit I ever bought was the FROG Ju87G, about 1968. In '75, Revell released their G. I snapped it up as soon as I saw one in a local shop. It was miles above the FROG kit in detail and I liked the inclusion of the engine ( remember, I was young and it was a long time ago! ) I still have one in the stash.

Definately not the FROG kit as it did not contain an ' engine '. The cannon armed Stukas were slower and less manouverable so they had FW190s as escort and bomb carrying Stukas as decoys/escorts. They would come in to attack the Russian tanks at low level where concentrated AA fire was less effective due to the surprise element. And they would attack the T34s from behind where their armour was thinnest around the engines.

Thanks folks...  I hadn't done a Revell kit for many years, and was very disappointed with this, as back in the day - 1970s they usually had the edge on Airfix etc.

My main gripe was the flash that needed hours of fettling.  Perhaps I was unlucky and got a Friday afternoon kit.

As it's an old kit, I assume the moulds are very tired, I believe Accademy do the same model Stuka this would probably be superior if you want this version of a Stuka.

I re-posted, as I had some silvering showing on some decals which I have fixed and added the ariel wire, that was fiddly but finishes it off.

Hi Hairtriger,

this is the box of my Ju 87 B/R, from 1976, which I suspect shares the same lineage than your kit.

Mine was bought pretty much at the time of the first issue, and is perfectly flash-free... Dark green plastic and all.

So it could have been a Friday afternoon kit, or one that failed QC and therefore was due to be shipped to France.

Whatever, you did good!

Keep having fun!
