1/350 HMS Dreadnought in dry dock at Portsmouth

Recommended Posts

Trumpeter 1/350 HMS Dreadnought in a scratchbuilt Portsmouth dry dock number 15.

PE by WEM including the cage aerial cages, 12pdr's, searchlights and figures by Northstar, resin planks and crates from l'Arsenal. Main gun barrels from Master Barrels. Extra cutters missing from the kit from the Shapeways. The dockside cranes are also 3d printed from my own design.

Rigging a mixture of Caenis and Uschi line.

I've taken a few more pics, the idea being to use a more realistic angle and try and date some to look like period photo's;

Perhaps wisely Britmodeller doesn't run a "model of the year" build but this would certainly be a contender!  An exceptional build and the little vignette scenes really help bring it to life, it's almost a museum class model that you could study for hours looking at before you spotted all of the details that have been hidden in it.

If you ran some of Nick's photographs through Photoshop to give them a period feel they would probably be indistinguishable from pictures of the real ship.

Thank you all for the very nice comments, much appreciated. It was a bit of a slog towards the end but I'm glad I persevered and I'm really please with the result.

Nice idea re the pics Richard (not the competition tho :)). I might try getting some really low level bow and stern shots (no helicopters in them days) and see how they look in black and white. I struggle to get enough depth of field to have the full length of the ship in focus unless it's really bright and outdoors to get a short enough exposure - maybe buy a tripod! If they're any good I'll post a couple of pics.

Thanks all for looking.

Cheers

What a model and diorama. Excellent build Nick. Model itself looks fantastic, but the dock and figures make it even better. I have to say that yours is more detailed and you spend a more time to get it perfect.

I am happy that we build them parallel as that really helps me.

Utterly awesome! Other than that I am lost for words and as most BMers can attest, that seldom if ever happens!

Thanks Kris, doing them in parallel was great fun.

Warrior's on the bench already while I research Hood - you're area of expertise my friend :)
