corsaircorp
Hello Dears, I know I have a lot of WiP, some of it are stalling for months if not years, but sometimes I will improve my skills Or I need more documentations OR I'm bored and jump to another kit What is a luck for SWMBO is that I do it only with kits, is there an modelling equivalence to womanizer ?? Kitizer ? Modelizer ? So in my Chuck Yeager serie, I want to do the NF-104 in which he has beaten an altitude record, not registered Aaaaand crashed ! Here's the basis, Oh did I mention that this thread will be a double kit issue ?? Why cutting in a not too bad but expensive Hasegawa kit when you have one or two Monogram at hand ?? Dave Claus from cutting Edge say, if you want to adapt it in a Monogram kit, you are on your own ! Caramba, Too tempting for me... I must try !! No longer have the Monogram box sorry but it was the German G with a (too) colorfull yellow marking ! Aaaand that one too Still I have some resin parts for these birds ! As it is said that the G version is the best choice, I started some "chainsaw massacre" Yellow plastic... loads of sanding ahead ! The Hasegawa one will depict the box art for my Cold war serie ! Ok Dears, I don't know when this one will be called finished But be reassured, I've tons of other projects that are not WiPed I know, I'm mad But hey ! I finish some models too !! Sincerely. corsaircorp
Hello Dears ! Some news of the piloted missiles The tail is chopped out ! Now let's have some adjustments ! Both on the kit Aaaaand the resin tail ! Dave Klaus said, if you used the Meteor kit on a monogram Starfighter, you are on your own ! Well I used to be on my own ! Let's have fun ! Meanwhile making the Hasegawa interior looking more conform ! But keep in mind that the NF-104 was quite different ! Luckily, I 've the 2 coaming ! Gooood ! There will be load of sanding ahead to adjust the resin tub in the Monogram half fuselage ! More to come soon ! Thanks for watching and have load of fun in modelling !! Sincerely. corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Centering the tail is not easy at all ! So, I file a drain in the resin part, Then I also worked on the internals of the beasts !! Amazingly enough, I found back my Tailhook !!! Here it is, but it came from the antithesis of a carrier borne aircraft !! Now, Gents, Have a really good night ! Sincerely. CC

Hi CC! Dunno whether it was Dave Claus devising the Cutting Edge 1/48 intake and speedbrake sets for the Hasegawa F-8 Crusader kits but he did certainly say exactly the same with regard to grafting those on the Monogram kits. They worked like a charm for me. Still trying to find out if those two brands were ever related on that kit. 15 hours ago, corsaircorp said: Humm !! Seen the pros use those transparent half round acrylic protractors in the background when trying to get horizontal/vertical surfaces to align correctly. You've only got to level the kit on your workbench first. Sure following this one. Cheers Unc2
Andre B
Wasn't such an conversion made in Fine Scale Modeller article with an 1/72 scale Starfighter some years ago? I remember a drawing concerning the wings (bigger?) and tail. And using a pair of fueltanks as rocketengines... Wings are bigger, nose is different, with rocket nozzles on it, the nose probe is loooooonger And of course, the rocket pack under the tail.. Interior is also different of course. Well Gents !! Andre B
I've found the article by Pat Hawkley about building Chuck Yeager's NF-104A in 1/48 scale in the March 2004 issue. It's about model the rocket-assisted near-space Starfighter with the Hasegawa kit and the Cutting Edge conversion set. I havn't found my own issue with that article yet. But what I remember is that it had an (1/72 scale?) drawing of the needed changes to build an NF-104A. The reason why I remembered that article for future builds... https://kalmbachhobbystore.com/product/fsm040301 Cheers / André

Old Viper Tester
Here's the surviving NF-104 in front of the USAF Test Pilot School at Edwards AFB in 1984. Unfortunately, she does not have the reaction control nose cone or wing tips... and an Air Force Flight Test Center image of her in flight: Want to do one of these myself in 1/72.
