JWM
Hi, I am in. Not too much time left but I will try to manage construction of Nieman R-10 by Pavla. I made some photos but I have some unexpected problems with communication between my camera card and computer. So I will post photos when (if?) I'll overcme them. JWM
OK, I connected card in other way (by cabe instedad of direc plug in) and it works, so: This is the kit: The sprues looks... very nice The canopies are vacu And there are some PE parts I do not have instruction - but I hope It is not a problem. I thinned trailing egdes of wings and glued them I removed unwanted additions I have found in Net some drawings If those drawings are correct the Pavla detailsof inside (cockpit) are simply wrong. To be cont J-W
Black Knight
You're off to a good start. Plenty of flash for you to remove too It's probably just an illusion but it looks like in the plastic the R-10 is shorter and dumpier than the drawings have it
JWM
Hi, The deep part of wheels bays were of too small diameter. I made it bigger using sanding tool on a battery powered small driller. I put some construction on walls of cockpit And glued halves together. I will detail cocpit from top and front. In rear cockpit I thinned walls The fairing of wing did not fot to fuselage Also the wing thicknes to not match fuselage I made kind of shallow cut which enables change of angle of wing fairing Wing on position I will add some details to cockpit from top and through the front of fuselage To be cont. regards J-W

I think that this is illusion due to lack of cowling on photos. If you put cowling it gets lenght... Regards J-W

Rob G
Oh dear... I have one of these in the deep stash. For some reason I've never started it - now I know why. I'll wander in from time to time and see if you're still sane. Excellent progress so far!

Rob (or anybody else), if you can scan instruction and post here the build part - it will be a great help. The PE parts are a bit puzzling to me without instruction...And as I said I bought it on second hand without instruction. I was doing cowling and especially air intake but I cannot post photo at the moment. I do not know why... I will try tomorrow... Roger Holden
Good to see someone building this old dog. Probably not what you want to hear, but Mars Models is planning a 1/48 kit for release soon, with 1/72 to follow.....

That is the high time to do Pavla one - or to forget about it...;) What I've just noticed the U shape cut on left side of cowling (which looks for first sight a fairing for exhaust pipe) is perhaps not a fairing for exhaust. On none photo any dirt is seen there, nor the pipe itself. And the pipes are below cowling J-W
KRK4m
IIRC the procedure of starting the Wright Cyclone-powered Curtiss Hawk II in Polish Aviation Museum this is the location of starter crank hole. And the Neman R-10 uses the Shvetsov variant of R-1820, so this can be the same :) Cheers Michael

J-W, I'd be happy to help. Investigation of the stash shows me why I haven't built this kit- I no longer possess it! Must've been sold in one of the pogroms. If it's any help, I DO have a Pavla Vought F6U-1 Pirate in there. They're both Pavla kits, so surely there's some similarity... No? Ok. Sorry that I've led you astray, but you seem to be doing quite well anyway!

My wife always says that all models are the same, so since I have a couple of Pavla kits in stash so I will find some similarity to follow ... Thanks Mike (KRK4m) for support. More by phone. JWM
Today I was working on pilot cockpit and propeller The seats with seat belts wer glued I made from scratch instrument panel To fit canopy I made cut at the end of canopy This is a painting scheme I want to do Here a late style spinner is needed. So I worked on this... I used the original prop and the back of spinner Prepare some epoxy resin filler - here two small balls before mixing And a cast of spinner from epoxy gliue After some sanding it looked like this Cowling End of the day To be cont. JWM
The main problem with this kit is rear turret. If you look at the photos above and for example here the turret is a champignons (or mushroom hat) shape - not a cylinder with rounded top as done by Pavla. I have to solve this problem in some way by doing a replacement turret....It will be a bit time consuming, I am affraid. Meanwhile I glued wheels - but I have to upload photos. So in next post they will be. Regards J-W Edited May 2, 2018 by JWM
JWM
The u/c Regarding turret I started to think about adaptation of Bolton-Paul dorsal turret from Lancaster. I have some spare ones since I made York, Manchester and turretless Grand Slam - so I have 3 spares. The diameter is a bit (1,5 mm) too large, I will try to diminish it. First I cut bottom and I used two halvs without openings for MG To be cont. J-W

JWM
To make diameter of turret smaller I cut it into four sections and sanded their edges a bit Then glued them back with CA, sanded with papers 600 and 2000 (wet), polished with linien cloth and cover with gloss Tamiya varnish (acryl). On left kit turret on right still not finished my replacement Meanwhile I painted with mix of Humbrol 191 and some white 34. This will be looking a bit like that or that instead of that: Hope to finish in time Regards J-W
JWM
Problem is that in central part of Nieman turret there is a single window (from top) and in mine turret there is a joint from sides. So I had to cut out the place for window: Prepare a non flat window It is not flat because it was cut out of a spoonfull... Again it is glued with CA glue The frames I made from a decal painted silver On above photos the tranparent parts are covered with gloss varnish, I hope it will be less blurr when dry. The Nieman is waiting for the turret OK, I know that the red "12" is not so narrow and tall like on profile, but that was the only one Soviet style red 12 of almost OK size which I was able to find in my drawers with decals. This is from a Begamot set for Pe-2 (BTW - an incerdible set of schemes for Peshka...) Regards J-W
JWM
Hi, It is now finished. During day I hope to do daylight takes forgallery. With bulb light it is like that: The black lines on wings are mostly shadows of u/c! Cheers J-W
