Sea King questions

Hello all,

I am a "born again modeller" that has come back after many years due to enforced retirement.

My intention is to put together (pun intended) a small group of models of aircraft that I have known.

I have a part finished JP in AAEE colours and a pair of Hawks (XX154 and XX156) from the same era.

On my list is a Sea King from early 1982 at RNAS Culdrose. It was being used for the first Stingray Flight Carriage trials.

The aircraft was serial "something 97" in white on the rear of the sponson, and RAF blue/grey otherwise.

Can anyone help with the following?

1. There are three posibilities fot the actual registration according to the interweb and books ( XV645, XV648 or XV705 ). Which is correct?

2. Which squadron was it attached to?

3. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as 1/72 Stingray torpedo, and associated release unit?

Thanks.

Dave

Hi Dave,

Welcome back to the dark art.

You may want to re-post this in Aircraft section  under the Cold War? the Moderaters may move it.

1. Not sure but can check tonight.

2. In answer to your request, 97 was a part of 706 Naval Air Squadron based at Culdrose.

3. Not sure about this, maybe in the Revell 1/72 Sea King kit?

Cheers the Woo.
