NealParkes
Hi chaps,So I am going to be starting this kit shortly, I’ll be building it for a facebook group build but would like to share it with you guys too.As always I’ll start you off with some photos of the box, instructions, decals and sprues.Lovely box art on the front of this one:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrThe instructions are nice and clear, not too many steps to this kit either so should go together relatively quickly:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrDecals look rather nice, printed by cartograph I believe:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrThe sprues, typical soft-is Airfix plastic, but some rather nice details for the scale:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrI’m looking forwards to starting this one, I’m doing it in the RAF markings, so it won’t be too weathered ad it was a show bird, it is going to be interesting to get the weathering right.Neal
DennisTheBear
Oh, oh, oh! First in, front seat! I have this kit lurking over my shoulder in the stash, so I'll follow along if you don't mind. One thing I have noted in my extremely limited (and carefully casual) research, and one of the reasons I've yet to start this kit myself, is that Airfix have the '111' on the fuselage as red and white, but in Stewart Wilson's 'Legends of the Air #4: Zero, Hurricane & P-38' the profile of this aircraft shows it as blue and white. I'm sure one of the others on BM, whom I readily admit are much more knowledgable, will be along to tell me which is correct. NealParkes
Hi chaps, I’ll be making a start on this one next week once I have finished this set of 5x12 hour shifts running around in my ambulance!! I will be doing a video build for it as well, but the forum policy is that I can’t share them here. But if you look in my signature you’ll see a link to my youtube channel! Lomcevak
Hello! I don’t have this one (yet!), so I’ll also follow up. Lools like a really nice little kit with lots of detail, especially on the textures. Cheers Jorge
NealParkes
Hi guys,I have finally got some time to upload some photos of the little bit of progress that I have done on the Hurricane. As with most kits we have started with the cockpit.First thing was to prime the areas using Ak Black Primer:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrThen I sprayed the sides of the cockpit using MRP Interior Grey-Green:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrAnd then did the metal work on the cockpit using Vallejo Metal Colour Aluminiu:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrOnce that has dried off I’ll come back and weather the cockpit and get the decal on for the instrument panel.More to come soon(ish).Neal
English Electric
Be careful with the upper and lower wing mating on this. I found on mine at least, that the wing tips didn't match at all, and that some fettling resulted. As the plastic is very soft it's fairly easy to correct, but at the same time it's a bit off putting if you don't expect it! Chris

Chris Thanks for the heads up, I have done a quick dry fit and I think I’ll need to play around a bit with them to get a god fit, but I still think they need a bit of filler. NealParkes
So I’ve done a bit more work on the Hurricane. Firstly I painted up the pilot who shall now be known as Rodney, I used some Humbrol enamels and Vallejo Model Colours:IMG_1784 by Neal, on Flickr I gave the interior a wash using some Abteilung Smoke thinned down with Humbrol enamel thinners:IMG_1785 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1787 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1788 by Neal, on Flickr I got the instrument panel decal on and painted the seat:IMG_1786 by Neal, on Flickr I then got the fuselage halves together:IMG_1789 by Neal, on FlickrIMG_1790 by Neal, on Flickr There we go that is all for now. Next update I hope to get the fuselage and wings together. Neal

Andre B
Just Wonder... Why is the plates behind the seat (part E1) painted Hu 70 brick red and not Interior green? Are this something Airfix got wrong or... ? Doing one Mk.I myself. Cheers / André Edited April 27, 2018 by Andre B

Beard
The Airfix Hurricane is a nice little kit but there are a couple of obvious errors (apologies if you already know about them): 1) the bit behind the gun access panels is metal, not fabric. 2) the wheels should have five spokes, not four. Both are easily cured; the first with some filler, the second with replacement wheels.

Hi, I was not aware of these shortcomings, I’ll have a look at correcting the bit aft of the gun access panels, but I’ll be sticking to the kits wheels, I could always do it in flight to resolve that but probably will still do it wheels down as I have done a lot of in flight kits recently. Thanks Neal

NealParkes
So I’ve been pushing on a bit with this little gem of a kit. So I filled and sanded the centre seem on top of the engine cowling:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr And also underneath but the photo is not very good:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr I got the wings together and also put some plasticard in to block off where the clear part should be, I’ll use some krystal clear later to do the transparent part:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr Then I put the radiator together and got that on the kit:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr And finally got the wings and fuselage together and clamped them inlace whilst the TET goes off:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on Flickr There you go guys you are up to speed with the build.
NealParkes
Hey guys, I have been carrying with a bit of work on the little Hurricane, here are the photos of what I have been up to. I put a wash into the wheel well:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr I applied some filler into the wing root, using perfect plastic putty and then wiped off the excess no need for sanding afterwards:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr After that I put in place the rear part of the lower fuselage, good fit here:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr I then decided to fill in the areas behind the gun access panels, I could not find an exact area so just went with what thought looked right:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr I sanded away the Revell filler and it looks nice to me. I also asked up the cockpit for priming, just need to add the rudder:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr To fill the wheel well some silly putty was used:Untitled by Neal, on Flickr And then she was primer using AK’s Black Primer & Microfiller sprayed through my Veda airbrush:Untitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on FlickrUntitled by Neal, on Flickr So there you are brought up to date with the progress. Next step is to get some paint on the bird, I don’t think I will apply a marvelling coat as the aircraft represented would have been in good condition considering it was on display at an airshow. Anyway more of that next week! Thanks for looking. Neal
