So, I was outside sorting shed stuff and wilting in the heat, when an unusual roar materialised overhead.

And what lumbers into view...?

Only a DC 3!⚠

Military C47 paint job, but still....

He disappeared behind the houses, and must have done a 270

and next thing he's coming in at no more than 1000' right on the approach to Southampton Airport runway 02 .

Didn't sound like a landing but I'd better check it out.

Who else has got one flying, apart from the BBMF.?

Of course, my phone was indoors at the time

Yes, other members of my club saw her around the south coast and the Airport. Didn't land but did some circuits - Southampton/ Eastleigh is home ground for Supermarine.

So there's the connection for the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight!

I've seen a few Spitfires come and go in the past.

Sorry, don't even know how I DID that!!

Anyway, I'm just about there with the DC 3s .

So far, gunner girl 2 has the job of standing on the steps.

A little bit of finesse required around her and the door...

And a couple of wheel chocks will be applied -- I insist😃

Maybe a little smaller this time.

And the de-icing boots need some black, and on the prop-blades too.

OK, I'll make a list.

I was thinking I'm actually getting quite fond of the Airfix airframe

The rivets are well tamed and the wings kind of look better than the Italieri version with its engraved lines.

But more than that, I'm pleased to have converted such a horrible piece of military improvised murderous weaponry back to what she's meant to be.

Beating swords into plough-shears!😇

It's this little pattern wheel thing, Nikolay. It is far better at marking on foil than bare plastic, but it does leave some rivets that are "well finished" on polystyrene.

Not always scale spacing between, but it's the impression that's important.

Well, I'm fairly well wrapped up on this build.

F-BEFH_c

One thing I did sort out on the Air France airframe was the little window to the front and above the main window line.

Crew area/galley? Toilet?

IMG_20180529_222142

Just hollowed it out with drill bits up to 2.5mm. Then a spot of dark paint on the white plastic, and finally a bead of PVA left to dry as glazing.

Airfix included a rectangular window here, but a round porthole looks like a better match for F-BEFH.

CADI has some chocks and a few details painted...

IMG_20180529_223544

... and I've got a tablefull of DC3s.

What am I gonna do with this lot?!😂

I believe the Radio operator sat there if memory serves ?

Well, friends, I just had a great day out at the ipms Salisbury Model Show.... Yes, THAT Salisbury...

Picked up a couple of commercial Airliners,

IMG_20180602_183404

Trouble is, as the planes get bigger the scale gets smaller!

And check out the little saw blade set I picked up for a few pounds,

IMG_20180602_183222

Top of the list, however, is another Frog Javelin.

Because THIS one has a canopy included....!

IMG_20180602_183317

That's right, the one I got in a bag previously has no canopy.

So the plan is to have a go at cloning this one with a plaster cast and plunge moulding.

So I may document the adventure in a build thread.

If I do, I'll put a link on here.

I been learning on the job about foil covering on raised panel lines!

Yay, it looks like I need something like this, too!
