Mike Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Sprue layout is identical to the Amtech kit, but it seems that new sprue identifiers have been added to the mould, with those excellent cut-out letters that I so much. An interesting fact I just read on the side of my AmTech boxing is that it was made in Korea. Isn't Academy Korean? That probably explains how they ended up with the moulds, and surprisingly it's copyrighted 2001, which when you think about the old Dragon/Trimaster 262s that were coming out around then, it was way ahead of its time in terms of mould quality. Maybe a bit light on detail in places, but still pretty good EDIT: I've just noticed that my boxing also includes a couple of vacform canopies as well as the plastic one. 2

They certainly are. I really hope this does well for them as there are many who go for this Luft '46 stuff and there are several 72nd scale offerings from other manufacturers that could be scaled up. Possibly there wasn't much surface detail on the wooden areas (as with the DH Vampire) hence the variation? 1

It was more the intake and gear bays that were a bit bland. I've got all the Aires resin for my next attempt (whenever that might be), which puts all that to rights, with a huge long intake trunk, detailed rendition of the engine between the gear bays, and another deep exhaust with bullet and the back of the engine deep within. They really are gorgeous, and should fit the new tooling too 2
Mike Esposito Posted May 6, 2018 Posted May 6, 2018 Cant wait for this one. Hopefully reasonably priced...that AMtech kit was crazy expensive on eBay

There's one on now for £45 with two kits in the box, so I don't think I'd be a rich man by the time I'd expended all that effort If it had been hundreds, maybe, but it ain't

They normally go for about £40 for one. Just checked the sellers other listings to see if there are any other good deals and if this one was a bit cheaper, I'd be tempted: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Falcon-1-48-Martin-Baker-MB5-Vac-Form-Kit/222923439452?hash=item33e745bd5c:g:8tIAAOSwH~ta0dFm

FranciscoPRG Posted May 15, 2018 Posted May 15, 2018 Hi guys, Just went to the stash and checked - the AMT DOES have the X-4 - so sorry for bad information. Cheers!
Mu17 Posted May 16, 2018 Posted May 16, 2018 The Osprey book on Luftwaffe Emergency Fighters contains a previously unpublished photo of the Ta.183 wooden mock up and copies of many of its drawings. Although component manufacture had begun and I think a spar was in a test rig, no one has suggested that any major components had been assembled and certainly nothing resembling a flyable aircraft existed at the end of the war - sadly - great aircraft. ReccePhreak Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I'm quite late coming to this topic, but I thought I'd add "My 2¢ worth". I have one of the AMtech kits, but also plan to pick up an Academy "rebox". My AMtech kit is going to be built in a proposed reconnaissance version. I have copies from some Luftwaffe book, where they show drawings dated 30.10.44, for a recce version carrying one RB 20/30 camera in a centerline compartment. Instead of the underwing X4 missiles, I plan to add at least 2 fuel tanks for long range recce missions. When I get the Academy kit, I plan to install some HS298 AAMs from my Dragon He229B Nachtjäger kit. I just think they look "cooler" than the X4 missiles. The Ho229B will be converted to a proposed recce version, with two Mk 108 cannon in the starboard side and two RB 20/30, RB 50/30 or RB 75/30 cameras in the port side. I have no proof of its use, but I also plan to add underwing fuel tanks for extended range. Larry 1
