So I can join the taunting then.. C'mon Steve lets get  your a** in gear (actually seeing as how I'm not American that should probably be a****, but you get the idea) and get that thing done, particularly as it's about 80% complete already. Your submarine (boat?) can wait.

Dare one ask what kind of gear you think Steve should put his a**/a*** into? Perhaps a sheer lycra weave?

There's a concept that you can't unthink!

An interesting set of photos showing early civil use of the 504 in our town.

Thanks Van Roon!

I’ve never seen those photos before and did not realise that we had those 504s in Perth skies. 👍 Love the shot with the camel train!

Yes - of course you may. Once I fail to deliver this model to the RFI pages prior to 1st Jan 2020 you may taunt until you can taunt no more! 😁

In terms of time I’m guessing about 60%. The devil - as they say - is in the details... and the top wing and the cockpit and the undercarriage and the engine and the propeller and the painting and the decals and the rigging and the base! 😵

I`ve never met Steve, but if he`s even vaguely like me then the thoughts of him in spandex are too bizarre to contemplate. So if there's a 2020 deadline for taunting then consider my taunting suspended till then...

Hmm 60%, that's still a large percentage, but yes I understand your pain, I am also suddenly finding many multiple tasks to avoid the struts and rigging on my gamecock, (strangely enough the tomahawk I started last week is almost done :) ).

Glad I am not the only one who starts other jobs in the vain hope that what I should be doing will be completed by the midnight pixies, unfortunately, procrastination only leads to the inevitable...facing down down what should have been done weeks before.

Looking forward to seeing more of this build Steve when your time permits.

Carpathia Complete - Restart Avro 504

Ok, Carpathia's finished now and thought I'd post this picture to prove that I finished that little diversionary project and am sticking to my promised schedule. Within a week or so, after a brief break from modelling,  I'll be back to posting on the Avro 504.

Here's the link to the Carpathia RFI if you want a closer look.

Remember, my goal is to have the Avro 504 completed by 31 Dec 2019 so wish me luck.

Will you just look at the state of this WIP, all covered in dust and cobwebs. Hello? Anyone home?

Must be abandoned I reckon, wonder if anyone will notice if I nick a few bits and pieces.

Good grief, at the rate you're going I may have my Gamecock finished before you (and possibly even my 11 other WIP projects :), I'm not starting anything new till I finish a few )

Well as it happens I’ve actually been spending quite a bit of time on this... 🤔

Looking at it, turning it around, dusting it, looking at it again, muttering at it and thinking such thoughts as ‘what the hell do I do now?!?!?’😳

Might have a crack at doing something on this this weekend. 👍

Or maybe I’ll just start another ship! 😄

Look - No Hands

Carpathia is finished! - although the WIP thread lives on! so now it's time to get back to this thing in earnest.  Like I said around Christmas time we are getting to some tricky bits on this project and from here on I think things are going to get challenging. Nonetheless there is a significant milestone here and one that's quite encouraging.

Start with another bit of magnetic formica. As mentioned before this stuff is terrific model-making material and I now really love using it but I had a talk with our local kitchen renovation specialists (who have just done up our family kitchen) and they have advised that the smallest sheet that can be purchased is about 2m long by 0.8 m wide and costs in excess of $200 Australian! 😧 So the idea of buying a sheet for future requirements just went out the window - I can't justify that kind of outlay. 😨

 sUncOei.jpg

So - I'm going to use another small shop sample of the blessed gold-plated stuff.  Cut out some paper copies of the critical stuts and supports and so-forth and stick it onto the Formica.

kJR2CVy.jpg

Cut out the shape with some tin-snips.

3rWyhax.jpg

Chain drill and saw out the interior holes as shown.

lKwwO8d.jpg

Clean everything up with a file.

TnuQZ3F.jpg

Drill and cut out some holes and slots and things where the assembly should fit nice and snug.

dCzItMF.jpg

And voila! The wings can balance on top of the newly formed structure.

E7lKZRq.jpg

See look! For the first time a picture of this biplane with no hands holding the top wing in place. How good is that?!?!

sQwAZeZ.jpg

I'm starting to think that I might actually get this biplane business to work.  Wonders will never cease.

It's good to back!

Nice to see movement on the '504' Steve. I like the strut support, nice and strong. I looked at something very similar when I was building a Sopwith Triplane but It never got any further.

all very nice, but won't the pilot fall out rather easily?
